Their lives

Are there any instances that whenever you encounter strangers you wonder what kind of circumstances are they going through? Are they happy in their lives? Are they having problems they can’t solve? Are you much more blessed than them?
I watched something in this certain film/TV show (I forgot what it is) that if you want to write a novel or a story, you have to observe the people around you and wonder what’s going on in their lives just to be able to conceptualize a character or a story....
