Help the Children, Help the World!

Help the Children, Help the World!
MoveOn Philippines, a non-profit charitable organization based in Florida and aims to provide educational tools for poor children in the Philippines, will be hosting a Dinner/Dance Party in Florida on March 1, 2008 at 6pm at the Bethelite Conference Center (5865 Arlington Expressway) in Jacksonville Florida.

KASILA* is a fundraising activity that supports education in the Philippines’ most marginalized areas and encourages transformation of communities ravaged by poverty and conflict into peaceful, progressive, and empowered stakeholders in equitable development.

Through these programs, Move on Philippines contributes to international efforts to address high illiteracy and drop-out rates, improve learning of math, science and the English language particularly at the elementary level, and address special problems in the conflict-affected areas.

Proceeds from the KASILA Fundraiser will be used to fund programs that increase access to quality education in areas most affected by poverty and/or conflict.

* “Kasila” is a Maguindanaon term for chilli pepper. It describes the piquant burning taste of life’s experiences for many children in poor areas of the Philippines. Many of these children go to school hungry, walk to and from school for several miles on foot, and do not have adequate books and learning materials.

You might be wondering why we’re promoting it here when the dinner/dance is in Florida. Well even if you’re in the Philippines or in any part of the world, you can still help out by purchasing a ticket (or two or more if you’re generous enough) to the event. Tickets cost only $35.oo and that will go a long way. You may also opt to donate to the charity instead of purchasing tickets (tax-deductible for US citizens).  Continue Reading >>>

Kris Martinez Admits He’s Open to Gay Relationships

Budding Filipino Actor Kris Martinez admitted in an interview with PEP that he is open to having a relationship with the same sex. Kris started his career in show business when he became the first runner-up in Close Up to Fame in 2005. He also starred in Twilight Dancers, a film about macho dancers, in 2006. His biggest project so far, we assume, would be this movie with Cristine Reyes and Andrew Schwimmer, Green Paradise, set for release anytime soon.

In a recent interview, this hot actor revealed that he is not closing his doors on gay relationships. It has been rumored that he has a gay sponsor in the US, who sends him money on a regular basis. He denied this but said that there is a gay man from the US who sends him stuff but not money. When asked if it is possible or impossible for someone like him to be involved in a relationship with a gay man, he replied:

Your Gay Community Needs You!

The 2007 Manila Pride March is almost here!

But wait, there’s more! There’s a need for more… More volunteers to help organize the event. Unlike many other big events out there, the Pride March does not have a lot of corporate sponsors. The more important need though, is the need for actual, real people to help out in organizing and running the event.

As of this writing, we have learned that the organizers really do need all the help that they can get for this big event. How can you help? Read about it here (from the 2007 Manila Pride blog):

volunteer!

We need your help! The organizers need people who can help us mobilize resources and widen community participation during the march. The tasks are simple – going around organizations, bars and establishments to encourage them to join the Pride March, helping in fund-raising activities, and saturating the internet with promotion materials on the LGBT Pride March.

Gay Events Philippines

You’re happy and gay and you know it.  But how do you make yourself even happier? Oh, there are lots of things you can do to find that inner peace and happiness.

For those who want instant happiness and fun or those who want to meet other gay men (and possibly, Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now),  there’s the clubbing and partying scenes at the Metro’s hottest bars and clubs.  For those who want happiness of the soul and enrichment of one’s mind, there is theater.  For those who want to just sit back and relax, there are movies. For those who, uhm, want instant gratification, there are uhm…. bath houses.

These are just a few of the different events that may provide happiness – instant and short-lived or otherwise.  But how does one know where to go and what events are on at the moment or the weekend after payday?  With so many events and so many activities catering to gay men and events that interest gay and straight folk alike, it’s just quite difficult to keep track.

That’s why we are launching a new blog: Gay Events Philippines!

This blog gives you a roundup of all gay-oriented and gay-related events here in the Philippines. This is your guide to Theater screenings, Clubbing, Parties, Social Outreach Programs, Eyeballs, Pride Marches, Spas and Bath Houses, Food, Bazaars, Seminars, Music and Album Launches, Concerts and so much more!

So what are you waiting for? Get yourself updated with “current” events and head on the Gay Events Philippines!

Help Find a Missing Person

We’re taking a short break to help our friend find her father who has been missing since last night, November 5. The father’s name is Donato “Totong” Jadol. He is 72 years old and has Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was last seen wearing white button-down shirt, brown slack and brown shoes. He was also carrying with him a black umbrella with the logo of Accenture. He was last seen on his way home to Rosario, Cavite from SM Bacoor.

The family believes that Mr. Jadol may have headed to Metro Manila instead of heading home to Rosario, Cavite. According to Ms. Jadol, her father is familiar with Metro Manila but his disease may cause him an inability to remember the places and areas he used to be familiar with. We need all the help that we can get.

If you are in the media or have connections to the media, we would appreciate it if we can have it announced over AM/FM Radio and television. Prayers would also be most appreciated.

If you have any information leading to the whereabouts of Mr. Jadol, please give us a call at +63 915 444 7074 or  +63 920 382 9568.  His emergency contact information are in his polo shirt . Thank you very much.

Victor Basa is Safe!

Gaby dela Merced has decided to make a voluntary exit on Saturday to pursue her dreams of becoming an international racecar driver.  She was asked by Big Brother to choose between staying in the house or attending her seminar (Driver Development Program for International Racing) in the United States next week.

Even though it was a very difficult decision to make, she opted to leave the Big Brother House to attend her seminar.  We feel a little bit sad because she is one of the few women (alongside Yayo Aguila and Ethel Booba) we are rooting for to become the Big Winner in this season.

Earn Money Through Facebook

It doesn’t really give you that much, but since you’re on Facebook, why not just take a little time (roughly 10 minutes) away from all your Warbooks, Human Pets, Scrabulous, etc., and use it to earn a little extra cash? Right?

We don’t have information as to when the Greatest Hits album will be released here in the Philippines, but they should release it soon. Why? Because we think that the Philippines is also a Spice Country! Not because we have a lot of spices but because Filipinos just love them girls! Hello naman, all of their singles peaked at number 1 here. Well, that’s what their official website says: Read the rest of this entry »

Flight Attendant Galore!

We recently posted an entry on local flight attendants and the pre-take off announcements. They were fun to read and would be fun to experience, but some of them were just bloopers. Now what if that boring intercom announcement was revitalized and rehashed so that it will catch the attention of all passengers?

That would be really fun and passengers would most likely pay more attention to every little detail. Every little detail including their own fashion sense!

Here’s a video taken by a passenger on a fight to Chicago. Don’t mind the video, as you will only see the aircraft’s left wing and the runway. Instead, pay attention to the flight attendant giving out the instructions. The audio is a bit off though and the FA talks as if there’s a time limit. In any case, it still is fun to listen to! If you’re having trouble listening to what the FA (we think he’s gay and cute :p) is saying, don’t fret as we have transcribed the text and placed it below the video. Welcome aboard!
