Meet the new TF Davao head
The recent disturbances in Mindanao has forced the assignment of Task Force Davao chief Col. Renier Cruz to Saranggani last week.
Meet his replacement – Col. Oscar Lactao. He was at the City Council at yesterday’s session to announce his new posting. TFDavao, part of the 10th Infantry Division, is the military contingent responsible for Davao City and neighboring towns. It was created in 2003 after the city became the target of terrorists with the deadly bombings outside the Davao airport and seaport.
If not for his rank and uniform, one would easily mistaken him as a politician. He shakes hands quite naturally, has charming disposition, and talks well and with sense.
Inquirer not precise, specific, accurate
Headline: Davao bus blast kills 6
Is it not better to be precise and specific? Digos bus blast kills 6
Davao and Digos have the same five letters and would surely fit in the front of the Inquirer. But why did the Inquirer editors use Davao instead of the more accurate Digos as the site of the bus blast?
Now he is an expert on Mindanao
Ha ha ha! This is interesting.
After squandering public funds, taking advantage of “sanctuary funds,” and enjoying Senate “security funds,” now this guy is turning to the man thrown out of office for gambling “slush funds!”
Ha ha ha!
This guy is not only after fortune and fame. He wants to dip his fingers in Mindanao too! And goes to the president who waged a “total war” in Mindanao.
New Olympic events for GRP
In the midst of finger-pointing and the blame game, it’s back to square one for Team Philippines as the debacle in Beijing takes center stage at next week’s sports summit of sports leaders.
I strongly suggest that the country, aka GRP (to align with GB, host of the 2012 Games), concentrate in the following events where I am certain our sports leaders can easily take podium positions:
Tits for tat
Kosovo declared its independence early this year with the backing of the EU and the US to the objection and consternation of Serbia and Russia.
Yesterday, Russia supported the independence of not one but two breakaway regions of Georgia – Abkhazia and South Ossetia – to the objection and condemnation of the EU and US.
Russia had its tits for EU’s and US’s tat.
Sunday quiz 6
When the Swede wrestler protested his defeat and refused his bronze medal at the podium last Thursday, his anger was directed at the “bunch of fatsos” at the judges table.
Perhaps unknown to him, however, it that the medal is not just bronze, or gold and silver. The Chinese hosts have incorporated jade in the reverse side of the medals, thus, making the medals an unprecedented piece of jewelry. And to host China and to many Asian countries, jade represents “honor and virtue.” My own necklace and ring are both made of this “stone of heaven.”

Wanted 8 votes
In the historic Senate vote on the US bases treaty, 12 senators voted for non-concurrence on September 16, 1991.
Once again, my hats off to the Magnificent 12 – Senators Jovito Salonga, Butz Aquino, Juan Ponce Enrile, Joseph Estrada, Tito Guingona, Sotero Laurel, Ernie Maceda, Orly Mercado, Nene Pimentel, Rene Saguisag, Bobby Tanada, and Victor Ziga.
Today, the country needs at least 8 senators to do the same to uphold our sovereignty and dignity and vote against JPEPA.
I’m pinning my hope on the following:
Cyberally
The last protest rally I attended was against child labor two months ago.

Balkanization of Mindanao
I am not a war monger and not about to fan one.
Yet, the government’s deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to seek peace is ironically causing the drum beatings for war.
“War is coming.”
“Military, MILF rebels trade mortar fires in North Cotabato.”
“AFP prepared for untoward incidents in the south.”
That’s what this unpopular government reaped for sowing the seeds of secrecy.
