Beauty and Prosthetics

Before I knew of Sarah Connor or Hellboy, there was Catherine (Beauty) and Vincent (Beast). One of the first “grown-up” (i.e. none cartoon) shows I got into when I was young was the live action TV series Beauty and the Beast. I have memories of lying down at the foot of my parent’s bed watching Vincent running off to save Catherine from some danger. You know, cause women are always getting into trouble, fictional or otherwise (kidding!).

The Inmates’ New Groove

Byron Garcia strikes again and delivers on his promise of a ‘Together in Electric Dreams’ routine from the prison inmates. It looks like some kind of deal was brokered with CNN as they got to show the routine first before Byron Garcia put up a video of it under his YouTube account. Here’s a link to the CNN video. And here’s a link to my previous post on the Thriller video.

CNN did the camera work on this one and it seems several were used (getting fancier!). They did some close-ups of the inmates this time too and you know what? If I ever meet one of these guys, I’m not going to make a wise crack about their dancing.

The flag thing at the end was a bit out of place don’t you think?

Wedding Rings: Kaliwete or Kaninete?

I never really thought about which finger my wedding ring should be. When I got married and we had our exchange of vows almost three years ago (Sept 18!), my wife slipped my wedding ring into my left ring finger. That’s where it has stayed since. I have only ever taken it out a handful of times since then. Usually when I wash the car myself, which is less often than I should.

Since then though, other people have come up to me and asked me why my wedding ring was on my left hand. Some have asked that shouldn’t it be on my right. I usually respond by telling them that that’s where my wife placed it when we got married and I didn’t see any reason to move it. Some have told me that traditionally, it was placed on the right ring finger. When I ask why that is, I really haven’t gotten a good response on that other than “it’s tradition”.

So, being the inquisitive and lazy researcher that I am, I turned to the Internet for answers. Here are a few things I found.

Repent! For My Car Is Dirty!

I went to the casting call for the second season of Heroes. Here’s how it went:

Panel: So why do you think you’re right for the show?
Me: I have powers.
Panel: Is that right? What’s your “ability”?
Me: I can control the weather.
Panel: Really?
Me: Well, more like influence the weather really.
Panel: Please elaborate.
Me: It always rains when I get my car washed.

Genius!

To all couch potatoes everywhere, you will no longer feel obligated to finish those bag of chips. Whether you think that’s a good or a bad things is directly related to your Body Mass Index.

Anyway, everyone has been in this situation: You’ve got a huge bag of chips and your full. Now, unless you have some kind of chip clip, you’re in trouble. Leave that bag like that and it will go stale. If you really want to save those chips, you’re gonna have to go MacGyver on its ass and get some duct tape. Well, that was before – this is now:

Burn Baby Burn!

Salt Water IgnitesThis is an amazing story. John Kanzius, a 63 year old retired broadcast engineer, was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago. Cancer treatment being what it is (e.g. chemotherapy), he was inspired to find a better way to help cancer patients. He went to work on a machine that used radio waves to kill cancer cells. But that’s not the story (amazing as it already is). His machine has an amazing side effect: It can burn salt water!

“You could take plain salt water out of the sea, put it in containers and produce a violent flame that could heat generators that make electricity, or provide other forms of energy,” Kanzius said.

“If I were to be bold enough, I think one day you could power an automobile with this, eventually,” Kanzius told WPBF.

Deity Gets a Shiny Surface

Remember that multi-touch technology I blogged about two months back? Well, guess what? Microsoft has apparently been in the background playing with the technology themselves. Microsoft Windows move aside! Here comes the next big thing – Microsoft Surface.

Stop Calling Me A Pig!

I think I have a new hero. This story was printed back in 2000, but I just Stumbled Upon it a couple of days ago. It was just too funny to pass up. Check this out:

May You Rest In Peace

Isn’t it funny that we celebrate Labor Day by not going to work? That’s kinda like celebrating somebody’s birthday by not going to the party. Doesn’t seem right. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate if Labor Day was celebrated by working sixteen hours instead of the usual eight? Or if everybody worked for free for the day! You know, ’cause it’s a celebration! Like giving presents!
