NBA Finals

NBA Finals starts earlier this morning with the celtics taking game 1 lead series 1-0.

Kobe Bryant will try to redeem himself to lead the Los Angeles Lakers for another possible championship, taking a look back from the Detroit Series in 2004 why the HECK they loss in that series? Detroit didn’t even win another championship after that!

Anyway, Finals starts earlier, sports and basketball fans will witness another classic match-up, rematch of Celtics-Lakers rivalry as their legacy continues, the most Winn ingest basketball clubs in history of the NBA. Who do you think will win the series? I’m a Laker fan; I can answer that at my sleep. L.A.K.E.R.S ! ! ! Of course, do not under estimate the Celtics, they have the best record at the regular season and they were favored to win the championship as early as the start of the season because of their so called big three in Garnett, Pierce and Allen. Maybe the lack of experience will be their weakness? Bryant and Fisher are the only members left of the 3peat in ‘00, ‘01 and ‘02 so basically they lack of experience too.

So where do we go with this?

Good News!???

There’s news regarding no tuition fee increase in all private and public state universities and colleges according to Commission on Higher Education Chairman Romulo Neri. The one I posted earlier.

According to Neri, CHED officials are still reviewing the petitions of state and private universities regarding tuition fee increase. Well its good news to hear that there will be no tuition fee hike for every average Filipino family. We are still suffering from side by side increase of basic commodity needs like rice, flours and breads, weekly increase of oil and recently the poultry and hog products, veggies and sea foods, effect by recent tropical depression Cosme, we can no longer absorb another increase in form of tuition fees. At least sophomores, juniors and seniors can continue their studies without hard thoughts. Increase was good for the development of facilities of the school establishment, but does the teachings and trainings improves? For some known colleges and universities yes, but how about some schools that doesn’t even passed the CHED standards?

Is it really good news? Well Neri however said colleges and universities do not need CHED permission to increase fees for the incoming freshmen. Whoa, how about other students who wants to get a degree courses or even associates. Survey says many average Filipino families are considerable to be poor these days. What if theses families can no longer afford to take their children to schools? The main reason of poverty here in our country is education, so how can we arise these problems if education it self were too much of the costs. Only in the Philippines, education is a business and not an institutions, you be the judge. Rodel.

OTTAWA, May 13, 2008 (AFP) – Tickets, check. Passports, check. Luggage, check. Baby … oops.

A family boarded a flight on Monday in westernmost Canada, and forgot their tot at the Vancouver international airport, media said Tuesday.
The 23-month-old boy’s family had just arrived in Canada from the Philippines, but they were forced to repack their overweight bags before catching a connecting flight to Winnipeg, causing them to run late.
In their sprint to the gate, the family became separated.
The boy’s father Jun Parreno, told local media he had thought his son was with his wife and the boy’s grandparents, who ran ahead. They thought the boy was with his dad.
On the plane, the family members were seated separately and so did not immediately realize they had left the child behind.

Newly appointed Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said yesterday he is thrilled to become the first Fil-Am named to the high-level position in the NBA and being “very proud of my heritage, this is a great honor.”

Spoelstra’s mother Elisa Caridad Celino is from San Pablo, Laguna. She is a UP Diliman journalism graduate and taught at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City before leaving for the US in 1966. Spoelstra’s father Jon is of Dutch-Irish descent and used to work in the front office of the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets.

A bachelor, Spoelstra has an older sister Monica who is involved in advertising and graphic design.

Powerful Earthquake Rocks China

MIANYANG, China – Soldiers hiking over landslide-blocked roads reached the epicenter of China’s devastating earthquake Tuesday, pulling bodies and a few survivors from collapsed buildings. The death toll of more than 12,000 was certain to rise as the buried were found.

Rescuers worked through a steady rain searching wrecked towns across hilly stretches of Sichuan province that were stricken by Monday’s magnitude-7.9 quake, China’s deadliest in three decades. Tens of thousands spent a second night outdoors, some sleeping under plastic sheeting, others bused to a stadium in the city of Mianyang, on the edge of the disaster area.

Street lamps were switched on in Mianyang on Tuesday night, but all the buildings were dark and deserted after the government ordered people out of them for fear of aftershocks. Security guards were posted at apartment blocks to keep people out.
The industrial city of 700,000 people — home to the headquarters of China’s nuclear weapons design industry — was turned into a thronging refugee camp, with residents sleeping outdoors.
