Post a Photo for Team Philippines

An Olympic event is happening this August and it does not involve athletes. Yet it is an undertaking for one’s country of origin. It involves men and women who are occasionally trigger happy, some armed to point and shoot, some with more advanced skills and equipment. It may even be you.

The theme of this week’s challenge over at Shutterday is Your Country. If you want to support your country of origin, all you have to do is enter a representative photograph from now until July 26.

The Clueless Define love

One of the more popular items in my elementary and early high school days was autograph books. We’d pass them around in class; get our friends and, more importantly, our crushes to sign. They were traditionally divided into 3 parts: personal data including name, address, telephone, likes, dislikes, etc; a dedication page where one writes a message to the owner; and a separate page about love.

I found a couple of them while decluttering and thought that Valentine’s Day was the best time to share how we, the clueless, defined love in those days.

Not Love Struck All the Time

When we speak of love, we often describe it with all the giddy and happy details. However, it is not all about chocolate, roses, candlelight dinners, etc. Love is not as simple as that. It has 3 stages – romance, disillusionment and true love.

The love story of Mike and Tintin is a perfect example.

Mike was initially attracted to Tintin because of her features. Dealing with her on a regular basis exposed him to her other qualities, the stuff his dreams were made of. He had finally found a pretty girl with the sanctity of a nun. On the other hand, Tintin was not attracted to Mike physically but felt his presence steadying. She felt safe with him and loved him more as he became part of her family. Thirty six months later, they were officially a couple and thinking about marriage.

UP Alumni Blogs

I blogged about the blue eagle and the green archer. Permit me now to blog about something closer to home. After all, it’s our centennial year.

I was in UP Diliman from 1986 to 1990 and finished with a BS Biology degree. No, I didn’t go on to the university’s med school. Pulse is my home on the web and I’ve never talked biology here. Frankly, I don’t remember much but I know UP made me what I am today.

Now, let me lead you to blogs of fellow UP alumni.

The Graveyard at Burger King

Took this photo at a Burger King outlet this morning where I had my breakfast of sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, hash browns and iced tea while leisurely reading today’s issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Round-Up of Wishes and a Plea for Help

I wished for just one entry to my first ever group writing project. I got 4. Yehey!

I thought about extending the deadline but felt it would be unfair to those who took the time despite a busy December.

Help me choose the winner of The Princess Bride 20th anniversary special edition DVD.

Choose the best among the Fab 4.

Wish: A Group Writing Project

I love group writing projects so when the opportunity came to launch a contest in my blog, I immediately thought of a group writing project.

I wished for a Princess Bride 20th anniversary special edition DVD and got it in the mail together with an extra copy the sender wants me to share with a lucky reader of the blog.

The Quitter’s Checklist

Quitting is almost always associated with losing or not trying hard enough. But quitting is not necessarily bad.

In fact, when you quit an addiction, you become a winner.

Wikipedia defines addiction as a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual’s health, mental state or social life.

Common addictions include smoking, alcohol, drugs, shopping, gambling, etc.

In my case, it was to Coke Light. I quit August 2007 and I’ve been soda-free since then.

What follows is a checklist.
