President Arroyo’s Statement on Glorietta Blast
What follows is the statement of President Gloria M. Arroyo regarding the blast yesterday at Glorietta mall, Makati.
The explosion happened at around 1:20pm at the area near the Luk Yuen tea house. I was deeply worried and I immediately called all my staff and friends who I know frequent the area. Thank goodness, everyone was safe. But I feel sad for the victims who died and the wounded. This is simply atrocious.

Boy Starts Gaming Company Makes $6.5M
Here’s what’s real. A 12-year old kid has founded a Silicon Valley based company called playspan. Playspan is the “game industry’s first publisher-sponsored™ in-game commerce™ network. PlaySpan’s patent-pending in-game search, commerce and micropayment technologies enable game publishers and developers to generate new revenues, acquire new users and extend the loyalty of existing users.”
According to their official website;
“PlaySpan is founded by Arjun Mehta, a 5th grader, passionate about gaming and software programming that can make game playing experience exciting and more importantly rewarding!
PlaySpan started in Arjun’s garage in Silicon Valley in 2006 and was incorporated with Arjun’s earnings from selling online game items won from quests he fought while attending 5th grade at Challenger School in San Jose. “
Nokia to Recall 46 Million Defective Batteries

When I heard this over TV, I thought this recall was sparked by a report of certain Nokia owner (here in the Philippines) that her batteries suddenly overheated and almost burned her house. Well, although not entirely due to that bit of news, it has something to do with it.
In an official statement, leading cellphone maker Nokia announced that it will recall batteries of the BL-5C series since they “identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.”

Adsense for Dummies

Here’s my take and tips on how to make Google Adsense work for your blog. If you’re living under a rock, adsense is one of the more popular ways to monetize your blog. There are others, but if you’re new to blogging, start with adsense.
Let’s begin by answering the question: “WTF is adsense?”
Adsense ads are basically text or image ads that google puts in your blog. Depending on your blog content, advertisers pay google so that relevant topics, products, services and sites automatically appear on your blog or website. In turn, google pays you a reasonable commission based on the number of people who clicked and the number of hits on your site.
Breasts in Video Games (A Study)

Alrighty…let’s tackle a sensitive issue here.
First, why are female breasts over-hyped in video games? Can Lara Croft really be adept at swinging and doing acrobatics with those C Cups? Can full plate armor really protect you when you show those mouth-watering cleavages? Do you love Dead or Alive for the gameplay or is it something else?
These and other “mysteries” will slowly be unraveled in this post/study. I will attempt to tackle, catalog and share with you facts and insight about the science (and possibly the logic) behind the design and conscious (or subconscous) desicions of game designers on breasts in relation to games.
How To Write A Better Post
Last week, I tackled some tips on how to organize your blog contests. This week, I wanted to write a short article on how to make a good post.
Let’s start by identifying the elements of a good post. The first and most important would be the relevance of your post. Second, and equally important, is the composition length. You should be able to strike a balance between “Not too short” and “not too long”.
10 Tips on How To Start Your Own Blog Contest
Contests are cool and netizens are eager to join them.
Top bloggers like John Chow practically broke barriers with it (with his “evil” blog contests) and raised to the top of the Technorati charts (creating some issues with Google and adsense though).
That aside, there’s just something irresistible with FREE stuff on the Internet. Starting an online blog contest with the right attitude (and steps) will mean rewards for your blog.
Top 5 Girls of Gaming

Throughout the years, we’ve come to admire the female characters in video games. One of my fondest memories of course was rescuing a certain “Princess Peach” from the evil clutches of King Koopa while I took on the role of an Italian plumber with his cousin Luigi.
Soon after, scores of games would feature memorable heroines which would later become definitive icons in this digital age.
After giving it much forethought, I decided to just list down the gmtristan.com “Top 5 most influential female video game characters”
