My Two Cents Worth on: Despicable Me
Despicable Me is a 3D-CGI release from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment and was primarily released in July 9, 2010 in the US. The computer animated movie stars Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, and Miranda Cosgrove.
The story revolves around Gru (Steve Carell), a former number one supervillain who was badly insulted by the theft of The Great Pyramid of Giza by a new and younger supervillain named Vector (Jason Segel). To regain his pride, he then plots a big diabolical plan of stealing the Moon to overshadow Vector’s Pyramid act. To do this though, he needs to get a loan from the bank to fund his plan but the bank requires him to get a hold of the Shrink Ray first. He was able to acquire the Shrink Ray but it was unfortunately stolen from him by Vector. All his plans to get the Shrink Ray back failed until he met three orphan girls named Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Elsie Fisher) who seem to discover Vector’s weakness: COOKIES. He then decides on adopting the three girls and uses them as baits for his plan but was later on surprised on how the three girls changed his life.
So what’s my Two Cents Worth on Despicable Me?
Quality wise, I think that it’s a very good film. The “action filled scenes” (e.g. as Gru goes to his secret lab, the theme park, the climactic showdown of Gru and Vector..) was emphasized dramatically because of the film being in 3D. It made you feel the “heat of the moment”.
Content wise, I would say that it’s a movie that parents can go two thumbs up to because of the lesson that it conveys. It teaches the viewers that every person, no matter who they are, has the capability to love and also has the right to be loved. It also shows us that love changes everything, even the baddest supervillain there is on earth. ^_^
So to sum it all up, I would recommend that you watch this film too. It’s a film that your whole family will surely love and enjoy.
