2.2.3 is a security and bug-fix release for the 2.2 series. Since this is a security release, we suggest you upgrade immediately. Two of the fixes are high priority.

Have you ran out of ideas to write on your blog?

Ever been in a state where you feel you have run out of ideas to write about? You feel that you have squeezed your brain into a pulp but still not even a single drop of idea leaks out? You might start to think, “Oh no! What should I do? If I don’t post today, I’ll be labeled as an inconsistent blogger and my readers will leave me!” Then you will change your schedule for today, “Today, I’m not going to eat, bath or even breathe until I publish a new article“.

So if ever you feel that you’ve run out of ideas, I’ve got tips for you!

Don’t Panic

This is the first thing that you should do. Do not panic! When you panic, you put a lot of pressure to yourself and you will not be able to think well. Remember that this is not a race. You should write at your own pace. Do not force yourself to write just because you have to. Do not be a slave to your blog where the blog commands you to “Write on me! or suffer!!!“. Do not compare this to schoolwork or your job where you have to meet deadlines or face the consequences.

Scheduling your posts for the future

When I write my post for the day, I do it on the same day the post will be published. This has been effective for me until I had days where I can’t even touch my blog since I may be outside of the house or doing some schoolwork (thesis). Remember my blog hiatus last week where I traveled to Iloilo, I was on the road for nearly 24hours and with no access to a computer. Obviously, there were also no posts for those days and that’s something I wish to avoid.

This has been a problem for me since I want to blog on a consistent basis. Due to my current way of writing my articles, I can’t do this so I looked around for some solutions to this problem…

The Solution? I’m glad wordpress offers Post Scheduling.

Why you should not publish a lot of entries in a short amount of time

There are times where you feel your creative juices are flowing and you are filled with ideas. Each of these ideas can be converted into blog entries! Due to this, you now have lots of potential blog entries to share to your readers. You plan to write them all down and publish them on the same day. I suggest you refrain from doing this. Do not be a millionaire in one day and risk being poor the next day.

I have three reasons why you should not do this.

How to back up your blog – Introduction

If you have read my previous on why you should back up your blog, then perhaps now you are wondering how do you back up your blog. This post does not have the technical details yet but this will serve as an introduction.

There are two types of back up you can do for your blog.

  1. Back up the contents of your blog
This pertains to your blog posts, categories, labels and pages. This could be anything that you have written for your blog. For most people, this is the more important of the two types since this is the life of your blog. Usually you can find the contents of your blog stored in a database.
  2. Back up the template/plug-ins/files
This pertains to your templates, plug-in or simply the folder where your blog is stored. If these files gets lost, your blog will be physically unavailable. You know of the 404 not found error right? That is what you will get if these files gets lost.

So what can you back up?

Back up your blog often

Whether you are on free hosting or on paid hosting, you should always back up your blog often. Accidents can happen; you might wake up one day and find your blog gone.

Why should I back up my blog?

  • You might be hacked!
Getting hacked is when someone gets to access your site without your permission or illegally. Once inside your site, that person can do nasty things on your site. He can change your “manly” template into something gay. Or perhaps add new posts about your secrets that you don’t want the world to know. Or add links to sites you have not even heard of. Or just simply to delete your posts, and worse, your blog itself.
  • You might be doing some template changes and messed up your blog’s appearance!
Although it is not recommended to edit your blog’s appearance online, some people do them (I do it when I’m lazy to edit it offline). What if you made some errors while you may be editing? Remember that there’s no undo when editing it live. The moment you clicked that button named “save”, any changes you have done are reflected on your blog.

Silkenhut’s blog purpose

One week and three days has passed (filler paragraph)…

Time flies so fast! I can’t believe that it has already been a week since my blog has been online. For the past week I have been busy tweaking the blog technically that it affected my posts. As you can see in my archives, most of my posts are technical in nature. These are actually my experiences in trying to make this blog look good, optimized and have lots of features. Let us move on to the main purpose of this post.

What is the blog’s purpose?

Ever since I started this blog, I have been asked by people on what will I be focusing on? Now that I think about it, what should I be focusing on? People might conclude that this blog will be about technical stuffs since most of the articles are about technical stuffs. However, I don’t think that is the case. I was thinking that this blog will be focusing on my experiences in the blogging world.
