Ang Bagong Baywalk

No, I’m not talking about the one favorited by Fred Lim, but the sprouting San Miguel By The Bay (SMBB) at the shoreline along SM Mall of Asia. The new gig site on town.

Which One Will Not Cause Your PR To Devalue?

Appropriate time has been spent given to debunk the wisdom of the “no follow” attribute. And a lot has suggested the dofollow plugin to deactivate this.  But is this the cause of the PR devaluation recently?

Another plugin came as alternative, LinkLove,  is this better than DoFollow?

Sonnie’s Porch needs your opinion as I am torn between using the DoFollow or LinkLove plugin.

Safety And Security Lapse At Ayala Malls?

If this was a tragedy caused by an LPG explosion, the safety procedures of Ayala Corp. will be put into question.

If this was a terror attack, not only the security lapse of Ayala Corp. that will be put in question, but also our intelligence network and the national Police.

For the life of me, I don’t understand how the culprits was able to sneak in high powered explosives in an upscale mall at the heart of the financial district?

Change Management: New Wine In Old Wineskin

The new wine in the old wineskin

The fermenting of new wine builds up pressure in its container which can burst old skins (you’ll notice this when you open a corked wine bottle).

  1. new wine + old wineskin = old wineskin will burst and wine will be spilled, value negative
  2. old wine + new wineskin = it will spoil the taste of the wine, value negative
  3. new wine + new wineskin = fermentation begins, value adding

Personal Application

Anyone who wish to change a habit, attitude or add new skills, it is important to ensure that his environment and relationships are conducive to achieving the goal. For example, in the Philippines, even non Chinese Filipinos enroll their kids to a Chinese school with the intent to introduce a 3rd or 4th language, i.e. fukien or mandarin. Though introducing a new language can be easy, to be proficient may not be possible if no one else in the clan and friends outside the school understands and speaks the language to help the kids integrate these to their “daily” conversation.

Pacquiao Won But…

I just finished watching the rematch of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao against Marco Antonio “Baby Face Assasin” Barerra live via sattelite at SM Cinema. As expected, Manny won the fight, unfortunately, it was not via knockout but unanimous decision.

I thought this was a boring and dirty fight courtesy of Barerra. Barerra’s battle plan is not to engage but to hit and run, thus, it became boring. And when Barerra is about to be knocked down, Barerra hit Pacquiao with a hook while the referee is trying to break them up. This cost Barerra a point deduction. He also suffered a bad cut under his right eye.

Herewith are lessons to learn that I thought can be applicable either to our work or life

Science and Discovery Center at Mall Of Asia

SM Mall of Asia’s Science and Discovery Center will be open to the public on mid October, but a friend of mine invited me to have a look at the Philippines first after the Planetarium project of the late President Marcos at Rizal Park. Here are two of the pics:

Have You Been To Baywalk Lately?

I pass by Roxas Blvd. regularly on my way to work and back, and I have witnessed how baywalk transformed from a dead area to a glamorous one where economic activity thrives. From a no man’s land to a place where family and young people spend their time. From an abandoned area to a place where both local and foreign tourists visit. I thought then, Manila went back to life. But have you been to baywalk recently? Take a look at these pics–

Believe It Can Be Done

More than 2 months ago, a bunch of young professionals and entrepreneurs, who barely know each other, worked on a goal that we thought to be close to impossible. And that is to host a national convention for Human Resource practioners where a well established organization has been doing regularly. And exactly, who do we think we are? An HR e-group whose members only know each other via email and blog, with no money.

All we have is the common desire to mentor younger generation/entry level HR practitioners,  and that of GK Lim who volunteered to speak for HR Philippines since he is will be in town. GK Lim is a well known Trainer and HR Guru in Asia Pacific, he is from Malaysia.

And on August 29, 2007, HR Philippines e-group made history by hosting 350 hr practitioners in attendance, the largest ”eye ball” event an e-group can have.
