Discover Cebu Writing Contest
July 19, 2008
I’m certainly leaning towards posting about Cebu now. And I really don’t mind. This post is pretty late too. I have decided not to enter the contests that I’m about to start posting on my blog, because well, I’m just way too busy with my personal life that I barely have anytime to update my blog. Full time blogging is fun, but right now I just need to focus on my real job. Anyway, this contest aims to promote Cebu in a way to highlight any tourist spots that you can find around Cebu, the cultural heritage and also the potential of the cities and towns of Cebu in the business field.
The contest is open to all individuals, students, professionals and bloggers. In short, just about anybody who has access to a computer.

The search for the next American Idol has commenced.
Because the first of the series of auditions was held at the Cow Palace in Daly City, “the Philippine City” in San Francisco, many Filipino-Americans made it with their entry wristbands, and hoping to pass the first round.

The Obscured Art of Personal Blogging
July 17, 2008
Let’s face it—personal blogging is a profitable niche no more. It’s a sad fact, seeing as how the original purpose of blogging was to serve as a sort of online journal. People’s tastes have changed, and blogging isn’t the obscure medium it used to be. Now, no one can wade through the Interwebs without hearing the word “blog” being mentioned—and boy, what a meaning the word has. The term now conjures images of fat geeks making money from home, and of websites that deliver to us breaking-news information even before television and print media get a hold of the [...] Continue Reading…
How to Generate StumbleUpon Traffic to Your Site
July 16, 2008
A lot of articles have been published over the net about StumbleUpon traffic, and all of them agree on one thing; Digg traffic is nothing compared to StumbleUpon. I haven’t been a witness of that but the data they’ve gathered and the observations they were pointing out all make sense. StumbleUpon traffic lasts longer. StumbleUpon visitors browse more. StumbleUpon traffic has more potential to be converted into subscribers and more backlinks. Of course, how this traffic will react depends on how you present your content and appearance to them. The less crappy your content the more it will be appreciated, a given fact for every social media sites out there.
I think StumbleUpon presents a better platform for bloggers to market their content effectively without being too brutal about it like in Digg. I mean, if you want some good results from Digg, you have to spoon feed all your friends with requests to digg your submission before you can get it. In StumbleUpon, I think it doesn’t work too much like that. Also, SEO articles considered spam in Digg are well received and praised in StumbleUpon. To better understand what I’m talking about, we need to make a certain perspective on how StumbleUpon’s system works. After reading several resources about StumbleUpon, I came up with these:

Cebu Blog Contest
July 16, 2008
Alright! This is something that we Cebuano bloggers should really be enthusiastic about. Not only will we be promoting Cebu, we will also have a shot at winning some excellent prizes. The contest will run from July 16th, that’s today people! So I really apologize for not getting this up on my blog right away. This is actually the only time I can update my blog. Trust me, after the hectic day that I went through yesterday, and the hectic shift that I went through also, it’s a miracle I’m still up and not snoring on my cot right now. Yes, I said cot. Saying bed is so, umm, I don’t know. ![]()

10 Simple Steps to Increase Your RSS Subscribers
July 11, 2008
1) Write quality content – People will not subscribe if all they’ll find in your blog are rants, the food you ate and more of your rants. Provide useful information that they could use for whatever it is they’re doing. The more they find your voice helpful, the more they will subscribe.
2) Write interesting content – Similarly, people will also subscribe if they could relate to your content and find it unique and interesting. People don’t only flock on useful things. They also tend to gather on things that appeal to them even if it’s not as useful.
3) Make catchy headlines – This is your article’s introduction. It’s the first impression that they’ll make of your post before they read it. If your titles are boring, that would instantly affect how they’ll receive the following lines of words you make. What do you think make girls buy glossy magazines just by looking at its cover? The same should also apply to your blog. Just convert buying into subscribing.
4) Make it easy to read – Make sure that your posts are easy on the eyes. Don’t publish research articles and blocks upon blocks of words that will intimidate the usual internet user suffering from attention deficit disorder. Use bullets to enumerate ideas. Use subheadings to break your train of thought in parts. And most importantly, use white spaces effectively. Don’t make one huge block of paragraph that’s hardly pleasing and difficult to read. It’s all about making it easy for the brain to digest your information quickly.

A Call to Action – BLOGSWARM Towards Maritime Safety
July 10, 2008
Join the BLOGSWARM Towards Maritime Safety to create awareness on the state of Maritime travel in the Philippines. The poor sector are affected the most and exploited by greedy shipping line owners made worse by corruption. There is a need for bloggers to come together to improve the situation on the following:
- The Philippines being composed of 7,107 islands maritime is the major form of transportation of the majority of the poor people.
- The industry is poorly regulated with so many agencies involved but lacking in equipment necessary to make maritime voyage safe and secure.
- Poorly managed shipping lines and poor regulation by so many government agencies.
- Poor record keeping by the shipping lines such as passenger manifest, overcrowding, inadequate life saving equipment and carrying toxic material cargoes in passenger vessels sacrificing passenger safety over profitability.
- Poorly funded infrastructure such as lighthouses, global positioning devices and distress signal system, rescue vessels for immediate response.
- Lack of political will to comply with International Maritime Organization safety and liability standards. Not as single maritime casualty investigation report has been submitted to the organization despite having a Filipino elected as secretary general as mandated under the terms of its membership.
- Passengers and ships are poorly insured lacking P&I coverage due to the ships poor condition.

Kalibo relief operation by Senator Mar Roxas, Capiz province and MMDA
July 2, 2008

Here are another set pictures sent to us by Mr. Roberto Acevedo on what happened in Capiz after Typhoon Frank hit the province.
The Capiz Provincial Government, upon the instruction of Senator Mar Roxas and Capiz Governor Vic Tanco sent several heavy equipments to augment in the clearing up of mud around Kalibo proper up to 2:00AM.
MMDA heavy equipments were also there sent by the Mrs. Gloria Arroyo. They started the relief operation by helping the Muncipality of Kalibo upon the request of Mayor Raymar Rebaldo. The removal of mud and operation started yesterday. Because of the heavy mudflood, they roughly estimate to complete the clearing in one month time. The mayor was the first one to operate their payloader after the flood and has been serving well the people of Kalibo. Their funds seemed to have been exhausted.
