THE BULL’S EYE IS “HIT-ABLE” — ZIG ZIGLAR

February 17, 2009

This evening I was reading a book written by one of my favorite authors, Zig Ziglar. I was inspired by the few lines I read:

“Somebody once said that the major difference between a big shot and a little shot is that the big shot was the little shot who kept on shooting…” [read more here]

THAT ONE THING YOU DO

January 31, 2009

Each one of us has been born with at least one special talent or gift. Staged for his or her own niche, position and place in this world. Each person designed and created with this unique ability. (No, I’m not talking about Heroes)

Organizations know what to call this one thing that they are good at — “core competency”.

Others can say their gift is in-born. (think Michael Jackson when he was 5 yrs old) [Read More]

The Plague in the Office

January 13, 2009

Here’s a story about a company in Manila. There were 10 of us. We were hired to start off a new account. Much to our amazement, the company was generous enough to pamper us with gadgets, take us to the US for “brainstorming,” treat us for dinner every now and then and give us enough to spend like no other typical employees would. Our first boss was “KC.” Out of the 10 leaders, none thought it was fair to kick him out and judge him to have “poor leadership” just for not being able to force us to bring calculators to an exam. None of us thought it was fair to throw him out of the circle just because we were issued laptops expecting no one would think of it as a privileged to add “leisure” to work. And so it happened… he was first to take a bow.

And so we had no choice but to move on… We were subject to scrutiny by all bosses and just a sniff of unpleasant smell would push us out of the circle. It happened… one of us was once again ruled out. Was it too early? Boss said he’d rather cut an arm than wait for the cancer to hurt the entire body. She was replaced.

And so the games began… During transition we though this is going to be one rowdy environment. The new boss came… he was uptight at first. He was strict and on fire. Days passed by and we started thinking… something’s not right. We saw him drink while on duty… sleep while on duty and mingle with all levels of people. It was seen to be one of his best qualities… he had “people skills.” Little did we know that that was going to be “the enemy.”

Fighting for What’s Yours - Use STABILO BOSS!

November 17, 2008

I found it amusing, although it was verging on idiocy. She marked her territory using a highlighter - particularly a Stabilo Boss.

Office equipment, especially those of the likes of company-owned refrigerators, trashcans, printers, etc. are for general use.

Get Hired Not Fired… For Blogging

September 18, 2008

Blogging is neutral, we can make it work for us or against us. Blogging is your brand, your online presence and reputation.

Those who are fired, if my memory serves me correct, is because they either blogged about company experience and/or disclosing non disclosable information, or habitual wasting of  company time and resources by blogging, plurking, youtubing, friendstering, multiplying, facebooking etc. while on duty.

However, we can blog about things that somehow answer the questions of would be employers.

You may read the rest of the entry straight from a blogger who became an Asst. Vice President courtesy of his blog.

Meet the new TF Davao head

September 3, 2008

The recent disturbances in Mindanao has forced the assignment of Task Force Davao chief Col. Renier Cruz to Saranggani last week.

Meet his replacement - Col. Oscar Lactao. He was at the City Council at yesterday’s session to announce his new posting. TFDavao, part of the 10th Infantry Division, is the military contingent responsible for Davao City and neighboring towns. It was created in 2003 after the city became the target of terrorists with the deadly bombings outside the Davao airport and seaport.

If not for his rank and uniform, one would easily mistaken him as a politician. He shakes hands quite naturally, has charming disposition, and talks well and with sense.

Boy Zuño

July 26, 2008

A premonition? After last Tuesday night’s So Kim Cheng Sports Awards, I and three other councilors had a nightcap at the lobby bar of Grand Regal Hotel. Councilors Danilo Dayanghirang, Nilo Abellera, Leo Avila III and myself reminisced how we all started in politics.

We also recollected many other politicians in Davao and one prominently mentioned during our discussion was Dominador “Boy” Zuño, Jr. He served our city as City Councilor and Vice Mayor. Councilors Dayanghirang and Abellera both started their political careers under the tutelage of Boy.

We asked ourselves how he was doing.
