The Modern Filipino Alphabet

Today, we are using The Modern Filipino Alphabet or Ang Bagong Alpabetong Filipino. We have 28 characters in total, these are: Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Ññ, N͠g n͠g, Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz.

The 16th letter ‘Ng’ is pronunced as endzi (/ŋ/) in itself or as in ping-pong or wing when already used in a word. Also if you noticed, I wrote the letter endzi with a tilde above it. This was the original way of writing endzi.

The Real Peso Sign, How to type it?

May 13, 2009

Last night (my local time - Asean Common Time) I searched if there are fonts that were updated to include the Peso currency sign which is located at Unicode point 20B1.

I was planning on creating a Peso font if I can not find a one, this was after the availability of Peso sign was discussed during the Philippine Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Release Party. My search turned-out positive, there’s not just one but countless of fonts already updated with the Peso sign included.

CITE Technical Institute, Inc. - How did I Become CITEnian?

April 28, 2009

I graduated high school way back 2004. It was my pleasure to receive an scholarship grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as an aid for my college education, which prompted me to enroll Information Technology at the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT). But, before finishing the DOST-SEI Summer Orientation and Enhancement Program (SOEP); I met a CITE Electronics Department Head - who happened to be my SOEP trainer for Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry. His name is Engr. Jose Roland M. Flores. I love the subjects he taught, and I like the way he teach. He is the one I considered the most influential person who encouraged me to enroll at CITE. He referred me to the CITE scholarship coordinator named, Mr. June Capuyan. I talked to him about the school and I was informed that there was still a single slot for the CITE Electronics batch fourteen. I’ve heard a lot about the school when I was still in high school but never tried to google it until the last day of the month-long SOEP training. I googled about CITE and finally realized the importance of its mission to the out-of-school youth. It was five years ago when I really need to make the best choice. I consulted my friends and family - Why not I try studying at CITE? Though I was hesitant to cancel my enrollment at Cebu Institute of Technology, I managed to decide in withdrawing my enrollment.

I rushed to CITE scholarship coordinator informing him that I already made a decision - I am going to enrol at CITE!

15 WAYS TO BEAT THE FILIPINO TIME

If you are a Filipino or you have been in the Philippines, I’m sure you know what “Filipino Time” means. Its like DST (daylight saving time) but only backwards. Seriously, its about the extra 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours —being late that is very common and acceptable in the country.

The Filipinos abroad are exempted from this phenomenon. [read more...]

How to properly ride your motorcycle

February 10, 2009

As a group we do not encourage members to be A** H*les on the street. Respect the other commuters, hey you do not own the road. So learn to share with others.

It is also important to wisely choose your motorcycle. In a seminar that our club attended. You must know what type of motorcycle fits you, a motorcycle that you feel comfortable with. Do not just get a bike because of it’s popularity. Find a bike that fits your lifestyle. If you are going to use your motorcycle as your daily service to school or into work. Mariveles Fact

February 10, 2009

Much historical interest is attached to this place. It was the chief port of the Jurisdiction of Mariveles under the old territorial division which comprised the island now called Corregidor. Mariveles is now included in the province of Bataan.

The first Spanish missionary who attempted to domesticate the natives of the Mariveles coast was stoned by them, and died in Manila as a consequence. An insubordinate Archbishop was once banished to Mariveles. Through the narrow channel between this port and Corregido

Illiterates

February 9, 2009

I had thought adult illiterate Filipinos didn’t exist. I was, however, proved wrong. This incident happened around July last year.

While waiting to get my ATM card from a very long wait, I heard an interesting exchange.

Sunda lagi ang instruction, sir, the teller said in a tone that bordered on annoyance. Or maabtan ta ani ugma.

Follow the instructions, sir, or we’ll end up finishing this tomorrow.

Naa biya nay example dira.

The examples are there.

The teller returned the man’s application forms and went out to do some other business. The man meekly accepted the documents and signed whatever the teller marked.

ID number na bay, I said as I noticed that he apparently forgot to read the instructions. Dili na sign-an.

Those blanks are for your ID number. You do not sign there.

THAT ONE THING YOU DO

January 31, 2009

Each one of us has been born with at least one special talent or gift. Staged for his or her own niche, position and place in this world. Each person designed and created with this unique ability. (No, I’m not talking about Heroes)

Organizations know what to call this one thing that they are good at — “core competency”.

Others can say their gift is in-born. (think Michael Jackson when he was 5 yrs old) [Read More]
