Backpacking Pinoy Style

Filipino backpackers gave their insightful and inspiring, not to mention enviable, experiences on traveling around the world last July 3 at the Recreational Outdoor Exchange (R.O.X.) shop at the Fort. Five speakers shared their own travel plans and notes, and gave useful tips to the participants, each of whom was probably pondering silently on how they would execute such similar excursions.

Kalibo relief operation by Senator Mar Roxas, Capiz province and MMDA

Here are another set pictures sent to us by Mr. Roberto Acevedo on what happened in Capiz after Typhoon Frank hit the province.

The Capiz Provincial Government, upon the instruction of Senator Mar Roxas and Capiz Governor Vic Tanco sent several heavy equipments to augment in the clearing up of mud around Kalibo proper up to 2:00AM.

MMDA heavy equipments were also there sent by the Mrs. Gloria Arroyo. They started the relief operation by helping the Muncipality of Kalibo upon the request of Mayor Raymar Rebaldo. The removal of mud and operation started yesterday. Because of the heavy mudflood, they roughly estimate to complete the clearing in one month time. The mayor was the first one to operate their payloader after the flood and has been serving well the people of Kalibo. Their funds seemed to have been exhausted.

Pacquiao vs Diaz Match Live Online!

Just less than two hours from now, another much awaited fight between two great fighters, dubbed as the “Lethal Combination“, Manny Pacquiao will battle it out with the Mexican - American David Diaz.

If Pacquiao wins this match then it will go down in the history books as he will be the first Asian to hold four world crowns in four weight division as well the first Filipino to reign in the 135-pound class.

Preliminary fights will start at 8PM EST 5PM PST (8AM PH time) and the main match should be starting after 2 hours or so. I’ll be watching it live again for FREE as usual. )

Senator Mar Roxas in Kalibo after Typhoon Frank

Here are pictures sent to us by Mr. Roberto Acevedo on what happened in Kalibo, Aklan after Typhoon Frank hit the province with pictures also of Senator Mar Roxas’ inspection in the area.

Emergency assistance is badly needed in Kalibo. The town proper was submerged in water 8-10 feet deep followed by mudfloods after Typhoon Frank. This is the first and the worst flood in the history of Kalibo.

Sun Tech Days in Manila 2008

Almost a week had passed since the extremely pleasing days filled with Java technologies from the Sun Tech Days in Manila that was held at the Makati Shangri-La. If I remember correctly, this one’s the 3rd Java event I have attended since Java in Manila (2 years ago) and the Sun Tech Days (4 years ago) that were both held in the same venue. I have read a column that says that Manny Pacquiao seems to be over confident in this fight. This has been due to cutting down his training regimen by delaying his trip to the US and attending first his local commitments. If this attitude of Manny Pacquiao continues I think this will soon end his legendary career as a boxer. The number one pound-by-pound boxer according to FightFan.com should be humble and never underestimate his opponent. Too bad, the humble Manny Pacquiao was a sight of yesterday.

Time To Awaken The Rizal In All Of Us

Tomorrow, June 19 we celebrate — with much gratitude and adoration, Jose Rizal’s birthday. For the uninformed few (okay, very very few, if there are actually any), Jose Protacio Rizal is the Philippine’s National Hero. I guess there’s no need to elaborate on that.

I have the pleasure and honor of living (for almost 2 years now) in the same city where he was born — Calamba City, Laguna. And so, being a few kilometers away from Rizal’s Shrine (Rizal’s ancestral house), I feel that it is only appropriate and yes, expected that I blog about him today — not discounting the fact that I genuinely have the urge to write about him. Before anything else, I have a confession to make. In the (almost) 2 years that I’ve moved here with my family, I have not (and I am ashamed to admit this..) visited Rizal’s Shrine — not even once. And it’s not for lack of anything but “effort”. Read more

Toy Con 2008 (Bleach CosPlayers)

Seeing that several DSLR wielding people inside the venue looked more like child-pron-talent-scouts glorified with brand name cameras and little known talent, I let my ego feed on the idea that I am way better than most of them when we take the following into consideration: (1) I looked like a rockstar, as always; (2) I’m a brilliant point and shoot photographer, refer my “about” page for the ratified self-proclamation; (3) I have newly-acquired Photoshop skillz, validated several times by DSLR wielding peers (huzzah!); and most importantly (4) cosplayers “may” trust me because of my dead ringer of an anime-like hairdo.
