Ballet in SM Mall of Asia
June 15, 2009
When Hannah introduced herself on the stage during her Senior Casa Graduation in Montessori, she announced loudly and proudly to the audience that she wants to be a ballet dancer. It was a unique aspiration among tons of kids wanting to be doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, politicians and police men. It generated quite a positive stir in the audience that encouraged my wife and I to support her in her dreams. So we took her to a ballet studio to start training.
Simple ingredients for a wedding
May 14, 2009
You think you’ll need flowers, a ring bearer, a caterer, photographer, baker, giveaways, etc. However, all you really need to have a wedding are FIVE simple things.
Focus on these five things and you’ll be set.
Weddings are all about team work!
May 14, 2009
Since I was organizing my wedding pretty much by myself, I needed as much help as possible. Naturally, my husband-to-be was there every step of the way.
Weddings are all about teamwork. Here’s how your man can help out.
Heretics and Monkeys
May 11, 2009
(First Sunday of May)
It was after my mom’s lecture that first he spoke out again with the same arguments on why should I cut my hair.
I really cant believe him that much of his preaching because he cant follow much of it himself.
The one that stands out is the fact that he told me to go to church every Sunday.
After months of laziness and procrastination, I have finally gone to church. One of the Readings was about The Good Shepherd. Something about listening and protection.
A couple of people mistook my fedora, which was upside down on a nearby table, for those holy water hand dips.
bumalik sa pagkabata
May 8, 2009
Poet Rainer Maria Rilke spoke of our childhoods as a powerhouse of stories. As writers, we should use this to our advantage.
I’ve listed a few ways on how to “bumalik sa pagkabata”
Kids say the darndest things
April 26, 2009
If you have got kids, I am sure you can relate when I say, “Kids say the darndest things”. Don’t you often get into a situation where you indulge into a competitive wordplay with another mother talking about her smartest child? I must admit, I do.
Flowers for AJ
April 3, 2009
These two long stemmed roses are for AJ. They were given to my dad, who handed them out to me and my mom while tears were about to stream down his cheeks, this morning during the Baccalaureate Mass held in her school, she was supposed to graduate from secondary education tomorrow.
Sadly, AJ won’t be there to receive her awards for being an excellent student, nor even her diploma for a job well done.

Help for AJ
March 31, 2009
While browsing through some blog posts in pinoyblogosphere, I happen to chance upon Hazel’s entry asking help for her niece who has cancer/leukemia. I was moved by her post so I decided to post an excerpt of her blog below to help her disseminate her niece’s story, get more info from other people and especially get more people to pray for her niece.
This is an excerpt of a blog entry at Zoe Grapho’ s blogsite (http://hazelsheryllchua.blogspot.com/2009/03/help-for-aj.html)

This is an attempt to disseminate information to get more people to pray for my niece who has cancer/leukemia.
Help for Sixteen Year Old Leukemia Patient
March 25, 2009
This is an attempt to disseminate information to get more people to pray for my niece who has cancer/leukemia.
Alleah Janine Reambillo, we call her AJ, was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia in 2001, she was nine years old at that time, a smart little girl who loves to draw and color and a consistent honor student in our local grade school. She went on remission with the help of oral medications (Glivec by Novartis) and in October of last year, her doctors gave her the permission to fly to Singapore for a final round of tests before they can give her a complete clearance.
She was supposed to fly with her dad this summer after she graduates from high school on April 3, she is also supposed to receive awards for being a student journalist and for being the school’s Ms. Alma Mater. Unfortunately, three weeks ago, my niece had high fever and my mom saw some bruises on her legs and arms again. She was rushed to the hospital and after a round of tests, it was discovered that something triggered the cancer to recur and it has mutated, it has become non-responsive to Glivec and from CML, it looks like it has now turned into Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She is still confined at the Fe del Mundo Children’s Medical Center Foundation in Banawe St., Quezon City as of this writing.
AML is relatively curable, according to some research I did a few days ago, but it requires chemotherapy, transfusions and a host of other procedures. We do need financial assistance to get through this, her parents are ordinary call center agents and she has siblings who also need care and support, my other brother and sister are also pulling their resources to help out, but it isn’t enough. Conservatively, we need PhP150,000.00/ US$3,200.00 every month for the next six months at least. She needs 6 chemotherapy sessions, one of which was already done two weeks ago and several blood transfusions. She was also prescribed several antibiotics to ward off possible infections. Until she finishes with her 6th chemo, we won’t know for sure if the bad cell was arrested or not. If it was, then we’re probably good to go, if not, then we will probably be needing more chemo therapies. These are just intelligent guesses, of course we still need the doctors prognosis which we will have only when she finishes her 6th session.
In behalf of my family, I would like to ask for your help. We need leads for foundations or organizations that help support children afflicted with leukemia/cancer in the Philippines, and yes, financial assistance at this time is also badly needed. *But most of all*, we need prayers from everyone, please help us pray for my niece, please help us beg the Lord for His mercy on AJ. If you are a blogger and are reading this, please help spread the word so that we can get more people to pray for her.
I have blogged about her on After His Own Heart, there are also pictures of her in the hospital if you’d like to see, you can just click over.
Thank you so much.
In Christ,
Hazel Chua

Do all kids hate eating vegetables?
March 8, 2009
Have you ever experienced running after your kids with a spoonful of green leafy vegetables trying so hard to entice them to eat it or at least convince them that their taste is as good as their effect on their health? I often play hide and seek, landing airplanes, funny faces and yet they keep their mouths shut as if afraid of the germs that threaten to come in.
40 WAYS TO IMPROVE FAMILY QUALITY TIME WITHOUT BEING LIKE ROBERT KIYOSAKI
March 8, 2009
If you have a nine to five job, you probably wake up around six am to prepare for work. You leave the house before eight am. And you hope to arrive at nine am. You might arrive at work around nine thirty am because of the “unexpected” traffic which you know happens everyday. You go home tired and maybe you just want to rest.
If you are an entrepreneur, you probably receive calls from clients or from your team even during lunch breaks, dinner or maybe even when you are in the bathroom. [read more...]
It is not easy to be a stay at home mom
March 1, 2009
A couple of weeks ago, I was in a you-got-what-you-wished-for kind of situation. My nanny had to go home to their province to take care of her family so I had a chance at being a stay at home mom for a week while she was gone. I thought, finally I would be able to do what I had dreamt of for so long. I was so excited.
The woman behind the mask
February 16, 2009
I would say I am a fairly independent and self sufficient woman despite many people’s expectations that women are helpless clueless creatures of the world. I got trained early by my parents and learned a lot more during my stint working in the US and when I was a single mom.
What that means is that I can clean, do the laundry, cook, go somewhere using a map, drive and find my way inside a large hardware store to find and buy what I need. I can strike up a decent conversation with the mechanic about a car problem I am having but I must admit I cannot change a flat tire.
15 WAYS TO BEAT THE FILIPINO TIME
February 11, 2009
If you are a Filipino or you have been in the Philippines, I’m sure you know what “Filipino Time” means. Its like DST (daylight saving time) but only backwards. Seriously, its about the extra 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours —being late that is very common and acceptable in the country.
The Filipinos abroad are exempted from this phenomenon. [read more...]
Older child syndrome
February 9, 2009
I have often read about topics delving into the middle child syndrome. Apparently, a child in belonging to this birth order exhibits such unique and interesting behavior that a title has been given to it.
Investing in your child’s future
February 5, 2009
I don’t mean investing in terms of financial security, I mean, investing in your child’s well being, which to me is really more important.
I have always been told that experience is the best teacher and obstacles aim to strengthen a person who can and break those who can’t. Personally, I can attest to that as I think that it is because of the events that occurred in my life, I am who I am today (and I am not that bad… hehe). Isn’t that the reason we hate spoiled brats? We love to hate those who don’t lift a finger even if it meant saving their life and I for one truly believe that those who have such an easy life are less prepared to handle the real world and its cruelty.
New Year’s Realizations and Resolutions
January 11, 2009
2008 was a full and challenging year for me as a mother and parent. There were a lot of changes, events and decisions that had to be made that made life too real where the effects hit too close for comfort. I know that I made mistakes here and there but still feel that I managed to recover a wiser woman. So I welcome this new year with a clear mind and an open heart.
Breastfeeding Not Allowed
January 3, 2009
Mothers around the world are protesting against the recent move by the #1 Social-Network Facebook for deleting breastfeeding photos. They aren’t even violating Facebook’s Terms.

Where’s your mother kid?
December 29, 2008
There is nothing more fun than having to take advantage of the holidays to party, socialize, relax, let your hair down and allowing your kids to stay up way past their bedtime. The holiday season and its endless scheduled family gatherings, community get-togethers and block parties creates the perfect atmosphere for this kind of free spirited celebration.

Cheap Ways to Call and Text Abroad Via Your Mobile
December 16, 2008

My cousin’s recent Globe Telecom roaming bill reached P11,147.80. You read it right, ELEVEN THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN AND EIGHTY CENTAVOS! Almost the same price of the much hyped LG Cookie phone.
Her G-Plan is only G-Text 500 with a monthly credit limit of P5,000. Instead of bearing the costs of international calls and texts by calling my cousin’s Verizon mobile, her moron and leech boyfriend kept on calling her roaming Globe SIM despite the fact that my cousin will be charged P60+ per minute for all incoming international calls. Why waste $0.40 per minute with Verizon when you can call her for only P6.50 per minute or P0.10 per second? Wise guy huh?

Simbang Gabi And My Back Pain
December 16, 2008
Anyway, here in Singapore, the Filipino Christmas tradition of Simbang Gabi (Misa de Gallo) started tonight at Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Woodlands. I was supposed to attend the Simbang Gabi with my room mate but I was in so much pain that I have to skip it.
