Starbucks strawberry shortcake
My sweet tooth was screaming bloody murder the other day from an all-day salty foodfest so I strolled to the nearest starbucks to get myself some pastry and coffee of course.
I was inspecting the assortment of pastries and desserts over the glass cover when a pink sliver caught my eye. I got caught staring and of course was treated to a dialogue of how much pleasure I would get from eating their “apparently” sugar free cake.
will blog for food
thanks to my wife, i have recently acquired the taste for good food and dining, whereas before, i am content on wolfing down any food that looks good to eat, the 7-11 food, or the carinderia fare…
that was why Apples and I put up our own food blog, located at http://www.kubiertos.com/blog, where we blog all of our dining experiences in and out of our home…
Not so crispy sisig
In my Good Eats post, I had listed that for me the Best Crispy Sisig could be eaten at Gerry’s Grill. I had struck it out from the list later on in the part 2 of that post. The reason being, I was disappointed a few weeks ago with the sisig that I had eaten at Gerry’s Grill @ Blue Wave. The sisig they served was first of all – not sizzling – and second it wasn’t crispy at all. The chicharon bits sprinkled on top were more “makunat” (tough) than crispy. The pork half-cooked by the hot plate so it turned out really “malansa” (term used for fish smell). The experience was so bad for me that I swore to take it off my Good Eats list and so I did.
Food to Go…Good to Go
A few months ago, I was looking to buy some lunch and I did not fancy eating at the office canteen. I was already on the walkway going towards Landmark Dept Store when I noticed this little coffee shop just beside IAM shoe store. At that time, I knew it had already been there for a long time but I just didn’t notice. My hunger made me extra sensitive to anything remotely resembling food. So I went in and was prepared to stay a minute as I initially saw that aside from coffee, all they had were candy, chocolates and chips. As I was turning to leave, some microwables caught my eye and. True enough, they were selling take out food. There were many choices: baked macaroni, chicken adobo, pork chops, beef sukiyaki, salads etc. And it all costs a mere P99! Talk about value for money. Since I am a pasta addict, I tried their lasagna. It was the right choice as since then I have kept coming back.
a bag of beans and apples pie
i have long looked for the perfect apple pie, and finally, i’ve found it!! where?? in a little nook found in Tagaytay where they not only grind and brew their own coffee, but where they also bake their own breads and pies…
Cascada…falls
My managers invited us leads out to lunch yesterday as part of the company’s counseling program. One of them suggested Cascada in Greenbelt and I got excited as the last time I ate there was when I went out on a blind date and Geez that was eons ago. I do recall my favorites though. One was the fried maki and the other one was the lamb skewers. My tongue looked forward to tasting those flavors and spices again.
We arrived there and of course I immediately took pictures. I was not able to set my camera properly so please pardon the lousy images. I just did not want my post to be without pictures for reference.
Cooking it up with ApplesH
The Holidays are almost over and I could have another run-down on the next restaurant that weve tried but today I would rather let you in on what I prepared for our family feast.
First off – Leche Flan. This succulent dessert is ever present during christmastime. I learned how to make great-tasting leche flan from my mother. I have never come across a better tasting one in all of my 31 years. I myself have tried but have never really matched the taste and texture of her masterpiece. However, my flan still tastes better than most (of course I made it! hehe). The secret I feel to making the best leche flan is two things. One: use only egg yolks (no egg whites puhleeesz!). Two: Knowing how to beat the egg yolks to the right consistency that would define fluffy. Another personal recommendation – do not use condensed milk to sweeten it. Use sugar. The result of using condensed milk just isn’t creme brulee.

Mang Inasal and PotDog
Robinsons was the first big mall in Pala-Pala, Dasmarinas, Cavite. Less than two years after that, SM Dasma was born and the volume of people going to Robinson’s Dasma dropped. But Robinsons faced the competition head on by expanding and creating a gimik place right in the corner of Aguinaldo Highway and Governor’s Drive. Dencio’s is now there as well as Mang Inasal. PotDog is in front of the supermarket counter. These are three joints you can’t find in SM Dasma as of this writing. Robinson’s conquered me with these three as well as the cheaper sepermarket prices they have. Read more here…
