Commuting around Hong Kong

June 4, 2009

One thing I immediately loved about Hong Kong is the public transport system, which puts the Philippines to shame. We’ve never seen the need for a car in this city, and we rarely take taxis since everything is accessible by commute. Read more here about getting around the city.

The Real Peso Sign, How to type it?

May 13, 2009

Last night (my local time - Asean Common Time) I searched if there are fonts that were updated to include the Peso currency sign which is located at Unicode point 20B1.

I was planning on creating a Peso font if I can not find a one, this was after the availability of Peso sign was discussed during the Philippine Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Release Party. My search turned-out positive, there’s not just one but countless of fonts already updated with the Peso sign included.

Christian Bale’s Rant

February 11, 2009

A recording of the Dark Knight star railing at someone for walking into his line of sight on set speaks volumes about who’s really in charge of Terminator Salvation

When it emerged last year that McG had been hired to take on Terminator, you could hear the cries of incredulity all the way from here to Comic Con. The fanboys were not at all impressed at the idea of an iconic franchise falling into the hands of a director who presumably thought: “job well done” after wrapping Charlie’s Angels 2:…

List of Bohol town fiestas

February 10, 2009

They say that the island of Bohol sinks about an inch in May due to the thousands of Bol-anons who come home to attend the many town and barrio fiestas celebrated during the month.

You can almost feel this once you disembark from those overloaded ships docking at the Tagbilaran Port in May.

Mariveles Fact

February 10, 2009

Much historical interest is attached to this place. It was the chief port of the Jurisdiction of Mariveles under the old territorial division which comprised the island now called Corregidor. Mariveles is now included in the province of Bataan.

The first Spanish missionary who attempted to domesticate the natives of the Mariveles coast was stoned by them, and died in Manila as a consequence. An insubordinate Archbishop was once banished to Mariveles. Through the narrow channel between this port and Corregido

Flash Mob

February 9, 2009

Flash Mob: a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The organization of flash mobs is generally accepted as being limited to the social media or viral emails, rather than organized by public relations firms or for a stunt. Also flash mobs are not politically or commercially motivated as described by Bill Wasik’s in where he said, they serve no purpose (wikipedia)

Recently I’ve been very much entertained watching flash mob videos in YouTube after watching a T-mobile flash mob gig. Though technically, based on the flash mob definition, this is not a flash mob because it was a stunt for a T-mobile ad, but nonetheless it was very much entertaining. As the music progress you can see more and more people “joining” the dance :) [Read More]

The Winner that Won it ALL

February 5, 2009

It has been 10 months now since I started this blog. It never crossed my mind that a simple Boy-Kuripot could change peoples’ perspective of joining Promos and Contests. A good example would be one of my readers, Joy Bahia, The Winner that Won it ALL. She was so overwhelmed by the prizes she have won over the past months that she even visited me and gave me goodies from her L.A. trip with her husband. Yep, she won a Trip to L.A. inclusive of airfare and lodging! And to think all she had to do to win that is send an email at NO COST whatsoever in her part. Amazing isn’t it? Aside from that she won a room makeover from Real Living magazine and lots of other cool stuff. Read more about Joy in her multiply journal

How to View Failure in a Different Way

February 5, 2009

Failure is painful. Some of us never recover from it. Others out of fear of failure are crippled to live life to the full.

So how do we overcome failure and not be overcome by them?

Having suffered a lot myself, here is what i learned. I look at my failure as data. It is information that came out of a process or experiment. I try not to put emotional labels on the said failure or data as I call it.

I call my failure as undesired outcome or result.

I don’t think the saying “I tried and nothing happened” is the right way of looking at our failure. If you “tried” then something “happened”, that is simple physics. If there is an action, then there is a reaction. What we say “Nothing happened.” what we actually say is “I did not like what happened.”

Even in not doing anything, something is happening. You are “wasting your time.”

Great people have suffered a lot of failures and disappointments. What makes them different from us is they did not give up. They used their failures as stepping stones for their success. Like Bo Sanchez said, they failed their way to success.

“All misfortune is but a stepping stone to fortune.” - Henry David Thoreau

If you want to be great then be ready to fail or to have undesirable results with your effort.

Be great. Don’t quit.

- daxx

A touchscreen PMP with Rhapsody and webkit browser

January 13, 2009

Beyond Rhapsody service, both models will feature integration with Flickr, Audible, and the ever-vague “popular social networking” sites. Battery life for the Rumble is expected to be about 15 hours for audio and 6 for video, while for the mini it’s 14 and 4, respectively. It’s surprisingly lightweight at the moment, but other than that we really don’t have much to say until we can see the interface in action. Click here to continue
