Cebu: CnT Lechon

CnT Lechon

The Taste of Cebuanos

The most famous lechon Cebu!  You’ll see cartons of cartons of this article in the check-in counter at the airport, brought by people coming from Cebu as “pasalubongs” to people back home.  You’ll be surprised at how famous this used to be a simple and small carinderia is today.  It had become a huge bowl of success and won over the hearts of Cebuanos and all sorts of visitors who go to Cebu.  In any normal day, this place runs out of lechons due to its popular demand.  So make sure you go earlier in the day before you regret not having to taste their specialty lechon.

By the time we landed Cebu it was almost time for lunch, from the airport we settled in our hotel room and freshened up a bit then headed straight to the famous yellow building of CnT Lechon just outside of SM City to get a taste of the whole pork roast everyone is so crazy for.

Cebu: Belgian Chocolate Lace Cookies

One of my friend’s brothers once came home from Cebu carrying this simple chocolate goody & I was lucky enough to have tried it – and then it took me away instantly! Having looked at it on a glance you’d think this chocolate dessert is an ordinary chocolate delicacy, but once you take a bite you’re sure to lose it and wonder what that thing is?!

The thin, round, chocolate covered in a crazy thin yellow white element is called: The Belgian Chocolate Lace Cookies. You take a bite and you feel the lovely dark chocolate crumbling in your mouth and then there comes the crunchy component playing around it which is your lace cookie. Fantastic mysterious treat!

Divisoria Shopper’s Map (2011 Update): A guide on the whereabouts of the things you need to buy in Divisoria

May dalawang taon na rin ang nakalipas nang na-i-post ko ang tunkol sa Divisoria Shopper’s Map: A guide on the whereabouts of the things you need to buy in Divisoria.

Bintan, baby!

This is our anniversary month hence I was ecstatic that we would be celebrating it in one of the swanky resorts in Bintan, Indonesia, The Angsana Hotel & Spa. If you’d check this in the website http://www.angsana.com, you’d understand why for a long time I had been fancying about it but had always been cast off due to never ending bookings. I had to book at least 2 months before, especially that the date I picked was a public holiday in SG.

Bintan Island is part of the Riau Archipelago (Indonesia), and is located less than 40 kilometers from Singapore, 45 minutes by ferry if you’re like me who can’t talk kilometers. It’s a favourite weekend retreat for people in SG as it’s only a short ferry ride from the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. We booked our ticket online (around 25 SGD per pax). It’s recommended to book early, especially if you’re going during a holiday so you can still have a say on your preferred travel time.

Amazing Ayutthaya

Our second day in Thailand had our leg muscles a bit worked up as made a sidetrip to Ayutthaya about 85 km north of Bangkok, under the unholy, unforgiving sun. Yes, we ended up basically being roasted and drained but that’s quite a small price you pay for such a spectacle — the amazing ruins that tell us a tale of a once powerful kingdom that ruled a great part of Thailand, Laos & Burma.

When I was putting up our itinerary for our Bangkok trip, thanks to the miracle called Google, I’ve seen amazing photos of Ayutthaya. Incredible photos! But to see them actually come alive, in all their elaborate design and grandeur is quite an experience. No wonder it’s listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

We heart Bangkok

The decision, that this would be our destination for our first out-of-the country trip as a married couple was a no-brainer. Bangkok pretty much stands out in Southeast Asia as a tourists’ haven and we weren’t disappointed. Bangkok is anything but boring; a real charmer I can say and it was such a nice escape from living in a city that feels like a small box, if you know what I mean.

Sagada Paradiso

We’ve made a trip back to Manila just recently and man I missed it so. ‘Made coming back to SG such an ordeal! Hence as a sort of a tribute to our beloved Pilipinas, I decided to take a leave from all my Euro blogs to take you to my one great adventure to Philippine’s outdoor capital, Sagada. Four days, three nights in scenic Sagada with my fab girl friends She, Amy and Jaz. This feels like ages ago already, a couple of months before I became Mrs. Piggy er Mrs. Barrera hehe. Four single girls all looking to have an amazing mountain experience, which we obviously achieved. Adventure + Serenity = A different kind of high. See the pictures and you’d know what I’m talking about.

Basketball Sports Cards

As an avid fan of the NBA, I have been collecting basketball sports cards since 1996.

I don’t want to be redundant regarding how I happened to stumble into this hobby so I suggest you read my blog post titled My NBA Trading Cards Hobby on my old web site.

During that time, the hobby had an explosion here in the Philippines.

I remember trading with hobbyists of all ages: from a 7 year-old kid to a 40-something professional.

However after the shortened NBA season in 1998 due to a lockout, many fans were disgusted with the turn of events. As a result, they left the hobby causing it to die gradually.

Call for Entries!!!

The youth, as they say, is the future of the nation. Born with promise and innate greatness, they dream worlds, forge visions, and search for truths unencumbered by wear and limits. These traits must be nurtured and encouraged. Yet the Filipino children today face several problems that hinder such essential growth. Diseases. Malnutrition. Poor health. Children who are ill or hungry cannot muster their minds’ inner wealth. They find it difficult to learn. Our poor state of education marked by few teachers, overcrowded classrooms and inadequate books, further worsens this problem, as it widens learning disparities among our young.

Building a healthier Philippines begins with healthier children.

Let us start by helping them learn to read.
