Going so well.
July 15, 2008
Here, you will be directed to a Youtube video of the Karl Lagerfeld fashion show featuring his own Spring/Summer 2008 lineup…. It’s awsome and ingenous.
here is a review for that show from style.com
Anywhoo. I got a job and I will start of friday… I love it!
It’s a kidswear store situated in a semio-tourist spot. And last week, I got a letter from this first clothing store I applied in and they said no.
It’s a little bit ok, the reputation of the founder and the comapny is a little bit wobbly if you ask me…
The kidswear thing however is also a little temporary, I’m a temporary part time worker and I may replace a mother who took a maternity leave. Keep my fingers crossed!
OBAMA MORPHS!
On a more depressing side. Our favorite multiracial democratic president is morphing into the other guy with large ears who sits in the oval office.
Let this snippet from the Honolulu Advertiser give you something:

Letter from a Future Teacher in Cambodia
June 18, 2008
Dear Toe,
I’ve been reading your blog in preparation for going to Cambodia. I am going there to teach in an International School run by a US-based missions organization, but I’m Pinay. Your blog has been very helpful and I’m grateful since I knew nothing about Cambodia until I started reading up when I got the job. I first applied last year but am only going to be able to leave in June (God-willing).
I promised my friends I’d keep a blog while I’m there, so I may be following in your footsteps… but that may be wishful thinking since this will be my first attempt at teaching.
I noticed a reference to Matabungkay Beach. I lived half my life right near that–on White Sands (now Terrazas de Punta Fuego). I wonder if my family knew yours?
But what I really wanted to ask you was that statement you made about Pinoys having “POEA”. I was just hired directly by the school and they’re handling my ticket and visa… so is there anything I should know and do aside from the papers they’re arranging for me? I understand if you can’t answer my question… but appreciate your taking time to read.
See you online, and keep up the blogging!

I Have Resigned!
May 20, 2008
Last May 2, fresh from the NAIA Centennial Airport, I went straight to the office to go to work. I promised my boss to return that’s why even I was feeling off and my mind was still on a vacation frenzy, I still went to work. I first dropped by SM MegaMall to buy my lunch then just ate at my desk.
While I was on my way to the airport, I edited the resignation letter I asked from my friend. Right after I finished my lunch, I started typing my resignation letter and just made some minor revisions since I find my resignation letter very straightforward. Before I passed my resignation letter to my boss, I asked the opinion of my online friends if it’s okay already and if there are revisions that I should do. Most of them gave their approval.

No More Excuses Pinoy, Take Part in the Boom of Internet Business
May 12, 2008
According to Russ Alfonso in his interview with Entrepreneur.com.ph, “Internet usage is expected to grow 23 percent annually to reach 21.5 million by [the end] of 2008. Filipino Internet users on average spend 2.3 hours per day checking e-mail, 1.6 hours on online community activities, 2.7 hours on instant messaging, and 3 hours on other Internet activities. Forty-eight percent of Internet users are within 20 to 28 years old and 44 percent are 30-40 years old.” So, what does this figures tells us? It tells us that with the continuous increasing number of internet users, internet business will also continue to rise. And if you noticed, it’s pretty obvious with the constant growth of establishments offering free WiFi access, the ever growing lists of online social networking sites anfd the growing number of Pinoy bloggers jumping in the field of making money online.

VOX POPULI SUCKSCarly Smithson is out?! I really loved her thing with the Jesus Christ Superstar. Who could’ve known that Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote that.
Anywhoo, I could never believed that Jason and Brooke was on the safe spot because everyone knows that they made super-obvious blunders. But then again, Simon made a good point: Fanbases, Charm, and “Being-Human” thing really pays off.
Dammit. Why does talent have to be the last thing?!
We Filipinos Always Manage to be in the Headlines in Canada
April 20, 2008
We described the side comment from the Desperate Housewives about Filipino doctors as degrading, right? Now, I could not, in my simple little mind figure out why someone would upload a confidential operation on Youtube. I am talking about that “Vicente Sotto Medical Center Scandal.” I’ve seen it. Although it was taken down from Youtube, you could still find the link where you can download it - for $1.00. Talk about enterpreneurship………. Well, i’ve downloaded it for free…
I came across it last week but I just shook my head. I didn’t dwell on it. But today while reading news from the CBC website (Canadian Broadcasting Centre), the VSMCC Scandal was one of the headlines. Of course it doesn’t say VMSCC scandal but “Doctors face dismissal after surgery posted on Youtube.” Here’s the link, read it for yourself - Doctors face dismissal after surgery posted on Youtube . At the bottom of that article, you can see different reactions from Canadians.
300 Nurses to Saskatchewan, Canada
April 14, 2008
It’s for real. Saskatchewan has been having a shortage of nurses. Mainly because of lots of retirees. The baby boomers. Another reason is because of the nurses who left Saskatchewan for another province. Guess what? They are coming back now. It could be because of the new government headed by Premier Brad Wall but Saskatchewan is just booming. People from Alberta who were originally from Saskatchewan are coming back. The new government promised 800 nurses. 300 of them coming from the Philippines. About 90 plus nurses were recruited sometime in November. The second recruitment was done in March for another 295. All I can say is to my kababayans, “Welcome to Saskatchewan!!!…nothing is easy. Adjustment takes time. And..there’s a reason for everything…” Hope your stay in Saskatchewan and Canada becomes a gateway for you to start your successful lives.
Here’s the article from CBC.CA - http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2008/02/21/nurses-philippines.html

Selecting the right job offer from the company you’ve applied

New POEA Policy on Direct Hiring - How Will This Affect Us?
January 30, 2008
(I wrote this post in my Multiply site and cross-posted to my Blogger site in the hopes of reaching more readers. This is a problem that does not only apply to doctors who wish to work abroad, but any other OFW who obtains his job through direct hiring. Please let people know about this new ruling - especially your friends and relatives who will be the most affected by it. You may sign a petition for its abolition over here if you agree with me.)
I posted this message on the Pinoy MD forum last night, in the hopes that more fellow doctors will be made aware of this new policy on Direct Hiring. I know that most of my contacts and most of those in my extended network are young doctors like myself, who are considering going overseas for training and employment opportunities.
As doctors, most of us who seek work abroad do not go through recruitment agencies but rather apply on our own and are hired directly by hospitals we are matched to in the US or are accepted into (in other countries). Since I see no provisos in the copy of the memorandum (you can get to read the full document over here) for doctors or other professionals, this will definitely affect our own bids to leave the country through direct hiring. This will be particularly problematic for colleagues who have been given H1b visas to the US. The rest of us who are to be sponsored on temporary employment visa will be greatly affected as well.
How it will ultimately affect us (and our chances for being matched and hired by hospitals abroad), I don’t know. But its effects will likely be detrimental rather than benificial given the recent economic slowdown and the fierce atmosphere of competition in the world at large. The POEA has just given foreign hospitals one more good reason not to hire Filipino.

Challenges in Problogging, making money online
January 23, 2008
Others (non-bloggers, non-frequent internet users and some plain bloggers) may not be aware of the struggles budding full time professional bloggers have to undergo.
It’s not always about earning big bucks. I’m telling you, and I’m sure probloggers will agree, that revenue don’t come in an instant during the initial venture to this career. Alongside problogging are hassles, situations and trials telling you to quit at once.
Free Accounting for Non-Accountants ebook
January 22, 2008
Accounting is really easy. It is not rocket science. In fact, your regular accountant may be, as the popular tv game would say, not as smart at your regular fifth grader.
If you don’t believe me, ask him on the spot what’s the sum of 21 and 18. Or any other pair of 2-digit numbers at that. Chances are he will still punch the thing on his calculator before giving an answer. Read the full post at Pinoy Seminars.
Accounting for SMEs
January 19, 2008
While most large companies have huge accounting units and have ready access to large accounting and auditing firms, small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) usually have to make do with the crudest record-keeping by its owners as source of financial information. How to highlight your application online.
January 15, 2008
How to highlight your application online.
“Just be creative if you want to highlight your application and get the chance to be interviewed first.†This was my answer to a certain job seekers’ question on how to highlight his application.
There are so many gimmicks you can do just to highlight yourself and your application but please don’t go beyond the extremes to prevent bad impressions.
Follow up by phone. As an example on how to highlight your application is to make a follow up call but this could irritate employers if you keep on calling them about the status of your application. Worst, this approach is totally conventional and could not possibly give you the edge to stand out from the rest of the applicants because of its negative impact to recruiters aside from it’s time consuming entertaining calls in between deadlines.
