Weekend, Weekend & Weekend.

November 19, 2007

Weekend is over and my God I was not contented with how my weekend goes. I moved to a new house which is a lot nearer to my new company address. My new landlady was amazed as to how I got no plates and kitchen utensils when I got 50+ hardbound books. Well, being me is always on the go I mean being single who doesn’t love cooking but do love eating don’t need those stuffs right? Worst, they branded me as a priest since I got a lot of books that made them left no choice but to help me out carry these stuffs since it was raining like cats and dogs. Others carried my non-working PC ( I just can’t dump it actually) and I’m so thankful to those who have helped. I noticed one lady also who was at the sidewalk who also assisted me as well since my book almost fell and when I checked the book t’was “ Jack’s Straight From the Gut” hayyyy.. muntik na! Then I realized I need siguro those utensils J . So I went out bought a few. Gosssh.. these things pala are so expensive now a days. Kaya tuloy napa isip ako, so expensive na pala to get married. Now I’m afraid.. not this time rodel J..

Delighted indeed

November 16, 2007

I just couldn’t help but acknowledge certain people who wanted to lend a hand but for confidentiality’s sake I’d rather not. I’ve been calling out for aid yet people seem to cover their ears but still I’m very deligthed because of some really cared…it’s because of optimism.

Im bored, got nothing to do so I’m stuck in this café trying to figure out where to head next. Lot’s of stuffs to attend to in the office hours ago but was able to beat the deadlines. No sweat. A close pal of mine was available though she needs more hours of sleep since she’s a nightwalker committed and angaged with a BPO company(Cebu) thus, we had dinner together. We’ve discussed latest things about the web updates about Careerclub Philippines and it’s latest enagements. Wow! I had my break. My mentor told me that she will be using Careerclub Phillipines as a front for a workshop to be held in Cebu before this year ends. The session would be small but it’s diffenetly a good news worth sharing and telling. By the way, I’d like to invite Hr professionals to check “public events” corner for a seminar sponsored by PMAP – Cebu one of my major sponsor. In short, whatever program they’ll be spearheading I’m just there helpless since all of them are my boss (direct and indirect) J. On the other hand, Careerclub Philippines will be iniating a “Cebu SEO Forum – Blog” hopefully before this year ends and initial venue would be at “Sacred Heart”.

To blog or not to blog..

November 16, 2007

This was the first words that my volunteer blogger told me about what will be her first entry for my project. But I won’t be expecting a lot from her since she’s a very busy person and of most of the time I hate talking and conversing to people who always tells me that their busy. Why? Most of them don’t see the value of time or don’t value time actually. Being busy doesn’t mean your valuing your time but rather the other way around. Valuing time is making use of the time on things your happy doing with. Don’t tell me your happy being busy coz if you do that’s terribly insane of you..

I’m good to go but with a bit of frustration.

November 16, 2007

Just uploaded our new banner & logo yesterday with the help of a good colleague. Credit to him for helping me out on this one since he gave me this for FREE. Hope to have more of those freebies in the future bro..

In the meantime I was bit saddened as to the outcome of my last entry “I blog for a cause – A must read”. As if nobody even bothered or even cared about it though I’m not blaming anybody on this one. Well, I guess I won’t be relying to anyone nalang cguro on helping people whom I find worth the help. Worst, my effort was not enough to convince fellow bloggers and netizens about my cause. But rest assured I’m not even thinking of stopping the cause to push things forward and help those who need a little help. If squeezing my own resources would be my last resort then so be it.

I blog for a cause - A must read

November 15, 2007

This project exists because of one thing i.e. “trabaho para sa lahat”. So much about politics coz I’m tired of following them on what’s the latest about PGMA, the issue on the recent tragedy and who was really the target. I’ve reacted violently as to how JDV projected himself in-front of the camera and worst parang nagging showbiz tuloy ang eksina. I’m now back from being sane and politicking has always been waste of time for me.

I blog for a cause, this has been what my soul wants for this topic. Was suppose to publish this entry yesterday but I was preoccupied with things and priorities thus, I’m really sorry Cath. As what I’ve promised to my friend I’ll help her since this is really the reason of my existence. Fellow bloggers and netizens I’m attaching here an open letter from a friend. This is the kind of story that I want from us Filipinos especially to those who already loss their hopes on how survive in this unfair world. Just being optimistic makes things fair enough. We’ve had enough of what’s happening now other groups wanted to start from the head just to harmonize everything and yet until now they’re fighting for it. As for my case I’m starting from the iota, hone him couple with good upbringing then I’ll be confident that I already did my part as a human being.

Her story has really touched me and in one way or another fueled my passion for me to double time or even triple time just to provide things in which ordinary job seekers can not or will never get from anybody. This has been my desired direction for this project to be a provider on my own little way.

America’s 10 Most-Wanted Workers

America’s 10 Most-Wanted Workers

Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder.com Editor

As more workers from the baby boomer generation retire, millions of jobs are opening up across a variety of industries; unfortunately, hiring managers are having trouble filling these vacant positions.
The reason?  In some instances, there is simply a lack of interest in certain industries, such as manufacturing.  Many of today’s young professionals are focusing on jobs that require computer and analytical thinking skills, rather than ones that require working with their hands.  In many cases, however, especially for hiring managers looking to fill management positions, the problem isn’t a lack of candidates, but a lack of qualified candidates.
In order to resolve this problem, some employers are offering incentives to older workers who are willing to delay retirement for a few years. Others are offering hiring bonuses to attract new, more-qualified workers.  Still, other companies are going right to the source of the problem, setting up courses with colleges and universities that train skilled workers or to pay students’ tuition to prepare them for specialized work.  Companies like Exelon and General Electric are providing research grants and scholarships for power engineering programs at four-year colleges.  And the Natural Association of Manufacturers recently established the “Dream It. Do It.” program to train young professionals and garner interest in manufacturing careers among students.
According to Manpower, Inc.’s 2007 Talent Shortage Survey, the following jobs are most in need of qualified workers right now.  Due to high demand, pursuing a job in one of these fields could mean increased pay and more benefits for those willing to take the plunge. Read more

Cebu’s three (3) most powerful personalities.

November 14, 2007

I just thought about this a while ago when I attended a product/service presentation from a provider in our conference room. The presentation was great and I’ll be talking about it in my next entries if time permits. Three most powerful personalities in Cebu measured by connections and assets worth and what’s in them that made them so valuable in this ever changing world aside from being so powerful and untouchable. If you’re an employer having them is a sure business and sure investment. This is just a quick review on them and by the way based on “chismis” and the likes “lang so wag kukurap!

The man beBigfoothind this company has diversified its business from entertainment, communication, Bigfoot ventures, and Bigfoot global solutions. Not to mention other investments for sure it would surely be a very long list. Based on conversations with other job seekers it has been considered by various fresh graduates as an employer of choice. Proof is when I had still my Friendster account which I recently deleted it wherein one of my “friends” highlighted on her profile that working on Bigfoot is her dream job and to strengthen my claim that it is indeed an employer of choice a few of our workforce from my previous employer join the bandwagon of Bigfoot as to why? Salary was one thing since it was stated in his resignation letter aside from the company really offers a fun place to its employees. Read more

Wanted: Josh Grovan!

Christmas is fast approaching and for sure your HR department same as our HR department is trying to figure out how to come up with a remarkable Christmas party for your employees or for you as an employee. Most likely you’ve been to the war room just to brainstorm as to how you’ll go about it together with the committee members. With you on board for sure it’s a creative event to anticipate with. Programs were presented, various presentations are stuffed too and fillers are never forgotten just to hype up the event and yet still everything is not enough because we or you wanted it to be innovative, creative and the program should be packed with splendid performances from various self-managed teams or from you as a sole performer who wanted nothing but recognition as a talent to be reckon with. Quite challenging ey! Well some achievement-oriented being loves this one and there’s only quite a few of them and sometimes their characters are so obvious that you won’t be needing a psych background just to judge them accordingly.

“Intangible assets – How much is it really worth?

November 12, 2007

“Intangible assets – How much is it really worth?

Organizational entry isn’t just about finding the right person at the right time for the right job. It is also about keeping the right person. But how can we keep such valuable asset amidst the growing industries that promises to offer a fun place to work with plus perks together with extremely high starting rate? This is just one of those deep-seated questions being thrown now days by HR executives in every round table brainstorming there is. This has been one of the reasons why thinkers such us J. Collins & Porras adopted “built to last concept”, R.M Kanter urged executives to become “change masters” & Welch embraced “boundaryless” organization initiated with an open-book strategy just to encourage innovation and creativity to better position their respective organizations. To borrow one CEO’s statement “Take away my assets and leave my people.” This is one proof of how valuable these intangibles are to every organization striving to keep its pace in the new emerging economy.

Decades ago applicants use to offer commitment, loyalty, trust & conformity to our standards but sudden paradigm shift has emerge that lead to employers approaching talents offering them career path, security, training & development and benefits of which other industries could not match. This is the reason why I’m encouraging young job seekers alike to be a “company of their own” just to keep abreast with the demands of the new economy as discussed on my previous article. This is a good opportunity rather to better equip themselves with the necessary tools & competencies before exploiting the new global mindset of every recruiter and employer i.e. blitzkriegs. Job seekers should never rely too much of what their institution has offered them for things they taught us are mostly outdated proven by emerging practices in the new business arena. You should be responsible of your growth as discussed on my previous article. On one hand, this has been the reason why some multinationals or even local companies resorted to strategic collaborations with known institutions for strategic advantage. Some global corporations have even built their own institution and pooled the best professors at large just to help them breed new emotionally intelligent leaders – Hybrid performers. If you belong to these types of organization then so what if you’ll jump-ship. But still, they’ll bleed in silent and morn for the loss such talent for along with it was an enormous amount of tacit knowledge of which we can’t write nor explain. This led me to embrace the fundamentals of knowledge management before your think tank’s runs dry. Now, are you scared? Is your company still willing to push the game plan with your clear and concise operating system together with your ambitious or measurable goals? Then I would suggest you check your talent management program if it could counter your future knowledge management initiatives. Read more..

Stereotyping: How I hate young recruiters from the BPO Industry!

Stereotyping: How I hate young recruiters from the BPO Industry!

A critique to young recruiters in the BPO Industry.

I just can’t imagine why they’re so fun of stereotyping applicants. If not from schools then from what type of industry you’ve learned stuffs. Is this the kind of training they got form their respective organizations? Are these the one’s being taught to them by their immediate heads on how to get quality and promising applicants? Is this a proven technique as to acquire quality hires?

Young as they are there’s still plenty of lessons still to be learned. I just hoped that they’d realize this early that sometimes real talents are concealed in rough surfaces. It takes a fine craftsman to mold a masterpiece and time to test its determination. You’ll never know that those résumé’s your dumping is gold and right before you knew it they’ve already made your competitor a great company to work with earning enormous profits. Another scenario is how one guy who was thrown out by his own company of which he co-founded. Ironic right? Latter he built his own company of which his former company acquired and right then he was back on board. And who is this guy then? Steve Jobs of Apple himself. You know who’s responsible for iPhone’s wide acceptance though for a fact that it’s still to be released by AT&T come last week of June. Gold’s are buried beneath the surface so you should exert more effort and give them a fair treatment for you to identify future great performers.

“Passion to make a Difference – an HR Cebu Story”

“Passion to make a Difference – an HR Cebu Story”

This has been inspired by a simple yet profound conversation I had with Elena Maramba an aspiring HR professional braced by a recent initiative by HR Philippines spearheaded by Jing Ureta of Marbel University together with it’s ever supportive core team. HR Philippines was the source of my desire to found HR Cebu and sell it to HR Philippines as a regional group with the recognition of HRD Gateway. Passion indeed could make you surmount the insurmountable.

It’s because of passion that we ignite and habit to keep us going. This has been a lesson learned from my previous readings on various blog’s and forums that I used to park and scoop around latest news about technology and potential big ideas. Some of which are potential googler’s in the making who are in the constant lookout for potential VC’s and angels for them to sell their big ideas. Passion indeed could make you fathom the unfathomable. Read more..

A company of your own

November 11, 2007

So whats that suppose to mean?

This has been my previous learnings from my 3 year stint in the HR arena. You have to be a company of your own.

I’d like to share this self taught learning reinforced by various readings to fellow job seekers out there. Actually I’m still actively looking for a new skill and challenge to embrace hopefully a big one to a new company (BPO preferred).

Job seekers should think like a company or act like a company equipped with the latest tools and competencies for you to be marketable enough to customers around. And who are these customers? Employers of course.

Fresh from college? So how do you guys market yourselves? Well mostly fresh grads usually brag their diploma’s, grades and licenses but I tell you some employers don’t care about these stuffs because past performance cannot guarantee them that your worth the investment though some schools of thought would still agree that it’s a good source of information on how you’ll perform in the long run.

So what then really counts if you don’t belong to those classroom brainiacs of your time?

Knowledge vs. Wisdom

November 11, 2007

Knowledge vs. Wisdom

Knowledge Management has been the latest fad being adopted by Senior Managers now a day. But we should take note that not all fads are quite effective since there are a lot of things needed to be considered in choosing to adopt a certain fad and Knowledge Management is one fad that made waves in the new economy i.e. BPO Industry. Especially from BPO Industry that they wanted to know what there sub-offices are doing that is why they resulted to integrating all the systems with the use of sophisticated infrastructures.

Adopting knowledge management in the work place should start first on a shared vocabulary idea. One should understand basically what is knowledge and how to acquire it. Actually, knowledge can be and even can be bought. Of course when you avail of trainings and seminars then you acquire such knowledge. But the problem is execution. Execution has been the most common pitfalls by some organizations. They tend to plan superbly but lack the execution part of which this is the most vital part. Execution and implementation should go hand in hand together with some metrics that would ascertain results. Read more..

New Recruitment Strategies By Companies?

November 10, 2007

Yesterday, I was at the clinic with a patient when I received a phone call. The guy (who’s using a smart cellphone number) who called asked if I’d be interested to join in their company’s expansion program as a health consultant. I didn’t answer to that and asked him how he got my number and if somebody referred me to him. He said he got it from some “headhunter” that he couldn’t even recall the name (oh great, you’re trying to recruit someone and you don’t even want to remember people who referred that person to you. What about character references? Does he know about that?).

I asked him what company he’s working for. Then he answered me by saying words vaguely and were almost gibberish by the sound of it (he doesn’t even have a good accent trying to speak in English, which gave me the impression that he’s already memorized this part about his company and have been well-rehearsed to be able to say it very fast so I wouldn’t be able to catch what he exactly said). He only slowed down in talking when he was saying some buzzwords like “expansion”, “multinational company”, “compensation”, and “Stanford University” (oh, was he trying to impress me with the name? No, he didn’t. By the way he said “Stanford University”, I was only more convinced that there’s something fishy going on) and when he shifted to Filipino and asked, “Ano po ba ang specialization ninyo? (What’s your specialization?)”.

I decided to give him a little spin.

You’re only worth 15 seconds of a recruiter’s time.

November 10, 2007

You’re only worth 15 seconds of a recruiter’s time. Can you believe that? How terrible isn’t it? But for all you know it’s a fact. No recruiter spends too much time on reviewing your resume once you apply to him or her. How about in the call center for sure my resume is worth their time. That I doubt. Due to shortage of supply plus an average of 7% turn over in this type of industry I doubt if they’ll go over with your resume. They’ll just call you directly (reviewing your resume for 15 sec) conduct a caned type of interview and your good to go if you pass. Read more here..

Customer Service Anyone?

October 18, 2007

[Rant]

Some of you may know that I had a job in a not so popular food establishment, not a fast food establishment, but an establishment that sells food.

Last night, after the thanksgiving mass for the Pinoy Media Congress 2007 Year 3, I went to the Morayta branch, going in to have a little chat and a little munch.

From the outside I can see it already and it looked worse inside.

Sci-fi: Lose a job, get a job

October 7, 2007

Have you ever been fired because of boredom?I have, and I’m not proud of it, and that’s a story that I’d talk about some other day. But I can relate with these Japanese guys who have been reprimanded for contributing to Gundam’s wikipedia entry. 260 times. Using the Japanese ministry of agriculture’s computers.

Reminds me of the memo the DENR issued to their employees. The subject? Accessing Friendster during office hours.

Fortunately sometimes both sci-fi and Friendster have their legitimate uses in business. Some businesses actually use Friendster (or more commonly, MySpace, and more recently, Facebook) to market their products. And a guy actually used his obsession for Star Wars costumes to get a job:

THE YANKS DESERVES IT!

September 8, 2007

As I was uploading the videos in You Tube concerning the aero dance exhibit of CSC officials and employees in commemoration of our 107th Anniversary this September, I reviewed blog entries posted at Pinoyblogosphere, where I used to blog. My attention was caught by the blog entry of basapa concerning the heroism displayed by two Americans, Mr. Troop Edmunds and Mr. Jerry Hawe, who rescued Lani from the alleged sex slave trafficker in Malaysia. Mr. Edmunds and Mr. Hawe, retired marine officer and FBI agent, respectively, are already in their 60’s. They traveled more than 6,000 miles away from home and conducted their own search and rescue mission and recovered Lani successfully.  I wonder what happened to other Pilipinas who were with Lani, the operator of this alleged sex slave syndicate or what the Malaysian Government is doing on the matter. I would like, however, to invite everybody to convey our sincere gratitude to Mr. Edmunds and Mr. Hawe. They deserve the admiration and respect not only of our OFWs, but the entire Pilipino nation. While my Great Grandfather may have been one the fierciest enemy of the Americans during the Pilipino-American War, the heroism displayed by Mr. Edmunds and Mr. Hawe deserves our respect and admiration in the same way that the Americans respected my Great Grandfather in the battlefield. On the brighter side, the prisoners in Cebu, that caught worldwide attention for their callistenics dance, was, once again, featured in CNN news. Government officials and employees regularly performs mass callestinics dance in their offices long before the “thiller” in Cebu prison camp caught worldwide attention. The difference: it was performed in a prison compound and was featured in You Tube. CSC mass aero dance exhibit is now featured in You Tube, but not in a prison compound.

The Curse of the Official Transcript of Records

August 27, 2007

Younger readers, take care of your college grades. I tell you, they’ll haunt you forever …forever …FOREVER!

Because I’m with the academe, I can’t help it that every time I apply for a new job, be it part-time or full-time, I need to submit my Official Transcript of Records.

Although past is past, I still feel humiliated upon seeing those 4 pages of college grades. I repeated a majority of my math subjects, and the rest of my grades were on the edge. It’s like a scar which says, “Yes, in college, I was mediocre.”

The People We Export

August 13, 2007

Just the other day, my kuya told me about a Filipina DH in the Middle East who was raped and videotaped by her employer’s son. The worse part of it was that she was even passed to all of her rapist’s sadist friends. My initial reaction was, “Buti na lang naka-uwi pa siya (Thank goodness she even got home).” Then my kuya said, “Hindi pa nga eh. Hindi pa nga alam kung nasa’n siya eh (Nope she hasn’t come home yet. They don’t even know where she is).”

From PCIJ:
Top Ten OFW Destinations (New Hires)
Saudi Arabia 64,971
Japan 38,756
Taiwan 34,346
UAE 33,861
Kuwait 24,861
Qatar 17,669
Hong Kong 17,624
Lebanon 13,176
Korea 6,916
Bahrain 4,814

As you can see, the stats say that Japan and primarily the Middle East countries top the destinations where we send our Pinays to work (supposedly) for money they couldn’t earn here. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Japan and our country is still in the middle of a long-standing battle: COMFORT WOMEN. PM Abe doesn’t even recognize the fact that his countrymen raped and killed our women during the WWII. And yet, we keep sending our women, primarily, to work for them as entertainers or helpers.

The Middle East countries are an even bigger source of headache for us. We know what’s been going there: Pinay DHs being raped, being maltreated, not given any pay, and even the Pinoys are given the same treatment. We know of the lives of our kababayans who died or was killed, we even had movies made in honor of these people, but we just keep on letting our people go there and be killed almost willingly.

It’s such a sad reality that some people must and should leave the country in order to support their families in this way; be it that these people are walking blindly into an unforeseen tragedy or blessing specifically designed for them. We sympathize and even admire these people for braving the unknown, but what the government can do for them is to make more of an effort to protect their rights and their lives while they work their asses off for their loved ones.

I agree with a lot of what Pedestrian Observer said but seeing as our politicians can do all talk and no apparent action is just damn wrong. They do it for publicity and that’s sick. Where’s the public service in all of that? I guess the people who work for POEA or whoever maybe doing something to ensure our OFWs’ safety, but again, could it be possible that they are working too slow?

So… Where here… right?

July 4, 2007

I’m really confused right now. I dont know if I should quit or if I should stay [in my part-time job]. There are times that I felt like quitting but as I kept testing fate, it seems to go against me.

What? Does God want me to break myself into a million pieces? [AN: still havent finished James Fray’s book “In a Million Little Pieces”]

I went into an NSTP seminar recently [before wiritng this blog post], good thing I did not sleep [like I usually do nowadays] or else I would never get the answer….

“Our hearts are NOT fatigued, thats the most important thing!”

-Micheal Jordan of Chicago Bulls

It was when the speaker was showing us the Power to Make a Choice and it’s relationships in establishing leaders anchored by faith. Some of you may have guessed it right, those seminars are the ones you see on TV wherin the speaker is totally into it and oh so praising the Lord. At first it was horrendous to the fact that a group called Christ Youth in Action would be inside a non-sectarian school, but then I saw the heart of it; not only that the thing that they were talking about is true for Christians, but also true for others.

Amen to that.

But that dosent change the fact that I think the other stuff there are corny and so unnecessary, you can energize in other ways than a come-and-articipate-with-us song and dance number!

Before reading this blog entry, I was going to write my resignation letter. But I stopped halfway because my reason is sooo lame.

“I would like to resign my position as a Store Team Member from Mister Donut TriNoMa branch. I would like to be as effective as soon as possible.

I have found out that I have too many responsibilities“

The ones in red are not actually written yet. Why is the reason lame? There is no such thing as “too many” but “too many to handle”. Base on my self evaluation, I can still browse the internet regularly [not rarely] even if I have am a working student….. Therefore the problem is within me.

So I swore to myself that This will be the last time I’ll blog then I’ll make a major comeback! {I still have 3 months. 3 is my monthsary}.

I will give a grandeur of a show. Wish me Luck!

[special mention to this blog entry. I love it!]
