The Lange Foundation featured on Oprah is a foundation dedicated to adopting animals/pets that no longer have their homes. Therefore, stopping or minimizing pet killings, those are on deathrow on most shelters that don’t have space.
It would be nice if we have something like this in the Philippines. Anyways, here is the video on Oprah.

Yes, after several years of failed attempts at controlling fire, I’ve finally done it! I always knew I was special. Mutant special. And now that I’ve discovered my previously latent mutant pyrokinetic ability, I’m wondering if I have other superhuman powers. I’m determined to find out, and I believe I can discover the truth with the help of my trusty old friend, SCIENCE!
You should know that there’s no one better in utilizing SCIENCE! than me. I’m a frickin’ scientist! I mean, I graduated with a Bachelor of SCIENCE! degree in Computer SCIENCE! I have a piece of paper to prove it! And seriously, you just can’t argue with a piece of paper. Sure, it took me 7 years to finish the damn course, but still.
So, without further ado, here’s my short quest in finding out if I have other awesome abilities… using SCIENCE!

is it possible for anyone to resist this funny face? (our family pug, Sage)A person can fall under any of the following categories: dog people, cat people, other-kind-of-pets people, and get-those-animals-away-from-me people. I make no secret of the fact that I am and will always be a dog person.
Dogs are funny, amusing, and great companions. But it’s their uncomplicated love and adoration of their “pack” that is a definite draw for true blue doggy lovers - and something that cat-people hold against them.
While there have always been dogs in our household for as long as I can remember, I really want to have my own dog. Not a family dog, but MY own dog. Unfortunately, given the uncertainty of my circumstances, it would be crazy to even consider raising a puppy now. But I’ve already gotten as far as coming up with the breeds I’m considering when I do get one - someday.

I’ve heard from Human’s discussions with the Booming Human that there’s been increasing food prices in many places and that there are many who couldn’t afford their food anymore, like in a far, far, far away place called Haiti that there are even sporadic wars fought just because people can’t eat anymore.
If people ran out of food, then hamsters can do too! Though, I can’t imagine any hamster not being able to have their bowl of carrots and lettuce in a day. That is so sad.
So, being a hamster with a social conscience, I, too, will do my share in this kind of situation:

Warren introduced me to this cool Opera widget, SimAquarium, and got me hooked last week.
Then, out of the blue this weekend, he decided to bring me to Cartimar to see if we could take the Aquarium fever to the next level and if it would do us some good on a hot, bristling Saturday.
Cartimar is located in Pasay and it is by far the biggest animal shop I have seen. It is a one stop superstore with endless shops that sell freshwater and saltwater fish, dogs of different breeds, cats - Siamese and Persians alike, a few exotic animals, birds and yeah, even shoes.
After scouring the shops, we finally decided to set up an aquarium, well of course we already knew what kind of aquarium we wanted to own. Warren once saw this type of aquarium with round edges and he thought, although far more expensive than average aquariums, that type is safer and looks better. We also thought we wanted about 10 guppies swimming in the aquarium. With those in mind, we started our hunt.

It was only recently that I have begun taking care of hamsters as pets. I used to have guinea pigs but that was ages ago. I think I have already forgotten how it was to take care of these fancy rodents (hamsters and guinea pigs share the same Order, Rodentia, but of different suborders, the hamsters being in Myomorpha while the guinea pigs are in Hystricomorpha). But I rather miss the touch of their soft fur and their little squeaks so I’ve decided to start having these as pets again. This time, it’s hamsters.
That’s the current home of my two teddy bear hammies, Coco and Qingzi (more photos of them later). I actually started with just one cage, housing Coco and the late Pao Chi (who died for reasons that I still don’t know up to now, and probably will never know unless I consent to digging her up and performing necropsy on her). Those are plastic containers with painted metal gate rails and a plastic door on top. Then I found out that the portholes on top and on the sides are for the fancy embellishment that could be bought for the cage in the same store where I got it. It’s quite exciting that I started with one pink plastic tube to connect the original house to the second house that I bought for Qingzi. Now the two have ample space to run around and, if they’re not feeling very social, they can retreat to their own nooks and be undisturbed. And the container being plastic, it’s easy to clean and easy to assemble. It also comes with its own water bottle, exercise wheel, and food bowl. All for the price of Php 676/house, plus a pair of hamsters. The pink plastic connector tube is only for Php 40. Good deal, I’d say.

In my dorm in UPLB, my roomates and I would often stay up late and talk about everything and anything we possibly can. Everything from crappy pinoy soaps, fantaseryes, JUMONG, Mark Lapid’s Batas Militar and Apoy sa Dibdib ng Samar movie fiascos, Mikey Arroyo and Steven Seagal’s irritating action flicks, some pinoy reality shows e.g. The Search for the Next White Castle Girl, and even Pokemon and some other anime series, we girls just love to tear those topics apart, debate and make fun of them on our whim.
Incidentally, we share the same “artistic” tendencies as well. I mean, we like the same type of music, books, movies and artists and even a past time activity: taking pictures. At first, since I owned a camera phone that can capture good quality video, I took random shots of the UPLB campus. Then I started taking pictures of my roomates, after which I ventured into including our dolls Jeleeta, Ruffles, Pikachu, ChakaDave and Jigglypuff. Can’t make my slideshow work here, so just click here instead to view our beloved room 6 pets.
Luckily, I had a thesis for my major subject, Botany 142, which was about the plants used for local kulam or witchcraft. So I had to buy a “kulam” book, Mga Panibagong Kulam by Tony Perez. When I brought the book to my dorm, my roomates and I suddenly thought of making a short video about the slap-stick kulam rituals featured in that book. The book contained spells that could and will not hurt people unless done correctly and with good intentions. We choose a spell para mawala ang sakit ng damdamin at sama ng loob (to ease feelings of hurt and distress).
We also did a Pilates “instructional” video and a make-up comic side trip. Really, when boredom strikes, creative juices will surely boil up.

Mommy sent a photo of me to Cutestpetcontest.com and luckily my photo was choosen as one of the semi-finalist in the contest. I’m keeping my paws crossed.

Yes, today is not an ordinary day. Because I have orbited the sun! Oh, I have been such a very good pug! But not too good– and certainly not all the time! Mommy’s been really busy trying to get some of her projects done and hasn’t had much time to play with me. I’m glad that today, my birthday, she dropped all her works, gave me a ‘lil party and type these words out for me… you know keyboards are not made for puggie paws.
