SQUIRRELS IN PHIL. FOREST!
May 15, 2008
Amid the crisis, however, the CSC Forest represents bounty. Today, squirrels can be sighted in the forest including snakes and other wild animals. It represents an ideal environment beyond the four corners of a government edifice. It represents an environment of what our country should be.
We lost track of the trees we planted at the Department of Agriculture and NIA. It reminds us of the past, however, whenever we see flowers of rain trees blooms as rainy season approaches while we walk along the alley of the Office for Legal Affairs. We can only hope, however, that those trees are now as tall, as big and cared dearly, where squirrels can hide, live and play in peace, like in the Civil Service Commission’s Centennial Forest, presently under Acting Chair Cesar Buenaflor.

2008 World Pyro Olympics - Day 2
What’s with WPO and the rain? I do not know. But ever since the 1st WPO, there is always a day or two where it rains so hard either in the afternoon or right when the first participant is ready to lit the skies, and again we’re dripping, soaked, wet!
But just like in the previous WPO’s (especially the 1st WPO), people stood their ground and never left their places, who cares about the rain when you are about to see one of the world’s best fireworks? The crowd started to

Boracay Experience Part I
May 8, 2008
By 6 A.M., we started preparing ourselves to go to Boracay. I took a bath then went to the dining to have my breakfast—rice and fried egg. I noticed that they didn’t even take a bath. We were cramming since they were waiting for us. At the last minute, I even changed my top shirt since I looked like a wrapped “suman.”
It was a long ride to Caticlan. I think we made it to Caticlan around by 9 A.M. It was a fun ride though since they were talking gossips about their neighbors. What’s fascinating with the people here is the mentality of aristocracy. You can see big and nice houses even they were just vendors of “dilis” (small fish) and hog butcher while the richer people are living modest with their simple and small houses. Anyway, during the trip, my tummy ached and it felt like I need to go the comfort room. When we arrived in Caticlan, we bought our tickets for the boat ride. Since I’m with the locals, we bought our tickets for only 20 pesos. Tickets for non-locals are 50 pesos by the way. Better leave the talking to the locals or you will pay 50 pesos.

Annie Leibovitz: The luckiest portait photograoher on earth!
April 28, 2008
When I was reviewing Good Luck Chuck (like there was something monumental to say). I stumbled upon this promotional poster with reference to the Issue 335 cover of the Rolling Stone.
Taken on the morning of December 8, 1980, this was one of the last photographs of Lennon, who was murdered by a deranged fan (hours) later in the day.
It was the best cover since 1965.
The earliest encounter with her is from a little snippet in the Time magazine about her Wizard of Oz themed shoots in a fashion editorial for Vogue US. Even if that image in the article is about 100×200 pixels, I really want to see that photo because there is some kind of glamour and beauty.

Photo from 1888: Eiffel Tower Under Construction
April 18, 2008
Is this tight or what?! These, my dear friends, were actually taken on June 1888, October 14, 1888, and January 20, 1889 showing the Eiffel Tower in three different stages during its construction. If this ain’t the shiz, I dunno what is!

On Top of Canada
April 17, 2008
During my first few months in Canada, that was in April 2004, I noticed that when saying goodbye (i.e., after a days’ work) a Canadian would say “enjoy the sunshine!” My answer would be, “oh we get a lot of sunshine in the Philippines and it’s too hot there so I really don’t mind the hovering clouds.” Later on I realized that Vancouver and the surrounding areas get so gloomy. And it is such a welcome treat for them to see the sun out. What I am trying to say is that in the Philippines, most Filipinas would run to be under the shade ‘coz they don’t want to get dark skin, right? Filipinas want their skin to be lighter. Hence, the multimillion peso skin bleaching business i.e., hydroquinone, bleaching soap, skin whiteners….glutathion. Tongue out But here in Canada, you would see Canadians eating lunch under the sun. They want their tan. You won’t see skin lighteners in the supermarket. You will see tanning lotions. And of course, tanning salons.

Rachelle Gerodias: Vienna, here she comes
April 14, 2008
Maria Rachelle Gerodias recently left the country for Austria to perform Liu in Puccini’s famous Turandot. Although she terribly misses the Philippines, she is also very happy to finally arrive at the pinnacle of every classical music artist’s dream - to perform in Vienna, at the Volksoper Wien nonetheless! As an artist who believes that one does not stop from learning, Rachelle sought the help of Carol Byers in preparing her for her role in Turandot and she was convinced to audition for a summer opera festival there. Apparently, she was asked for a third aria, which she said is a good sign.
Offstage with Rachelle Gerodias
April 14, 2008
Just like any other ordinary Pinay, Rachelle also dreams, but unlike most ordinary Pinays, Rachelle stretches bones and muscles to reach for that dream.
Her story is unlike many other celebrity story, Rachelle wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth nor was she spoiled rotten by indulging parents. Her rise to stardom is one of hard work, a series of self discoveries, trials, failures and successes.

We got an aquarium!
April 7, 2008
Warren introduced me to this cool Opera widget, SimAquarium, and got me hooked last week.
Then, out of the blue this weekend, he decided to bring me to Cartimar to see if we could take the Aquarium fever to the next level and if it would do us some good on a hot, bristling Saturday.
Cartimar is located in Pasay and it is by far the biggest animal shop I have seen. It is a one stop superstore with endless shops that sell freshwater and saltwater fish, dogs of different breeds, cats - Siamese and Persians alike, a few exotic animals, birds and yeah, even shoes.
After scouring the shops, we finally decided to set up an aquarium, well of course we already knew what kind of aquarium we wanted to own. Warren once saw this type of aquarium with round edges and he thought, although far more expensive than average aquariums, that type is safer and looks better. We also thought we wanted about 10 guppies swimming in the aquarium. With those in mind, we started our hunt.

Adobe Photoshop Express is Not the Web-Based Photoshop
March 27, 2008
The online version of Adobe Photoshop is finally here. But it’s not exactly what you were expecting.
Why release Photoshop Express like this? Maybe Adobe’s not looking to web-ify as many Photoshop features as possible, but instead hook the average user with the retouching tools and of course the social sharing angle, just like Picnik. But could Photoshop Express become both feature-packed and social in the future? Why not?
