We got an aquarium!

April 7, 2008

Warren introduced me to this cool Opera widget, SimAquarium, and got me hooked last week.

Then, out of the blue this weekend, he decided to bring me to Cartimar to see if we could take the Aquarium fever to the next level and if it would do us some good on a hot, bristling Saturday.

Cartimar is located in Pasay and it is by far the biggest animal shop I have seen. It is a one stop superstore with endless shops that sell freshwater and saltwater fish, dogs of different breeds, cats - Siamese and Persians alike, a few exotic animals, birds and yeah, even shoes.

After scouring the shops, we finally decided to set up an aquarium, well of course we already knew what kind of aquarium we wanted to own. Warren once saw this type of aquarium with round edges and he thought, although far more expensive than average aquariums, that type is safer and looks better. We also thought we wanted about 10 guppies swimming in the aquarium. With those in mind, we started our hunt.

Adobe Photoshop Express is Not the Web-Based Photoshop

March 27, 2008

The online version of Adobe Photoshop is finally here. But it’s not exactly what you were expecting.

Why release Photoshop Express like this? Maybe Adobe’s not looking to web-ify as many Photoshop features as possible, but instead hook the average user with the retouching tools and of course the social sharing angle, just like Picnik. But could Photoshop Express become both feature-packed and social in the future? Why not?

Pasyon sa Mantalongon

March 23, 2008

“We went there just to watch someone being nailed on the cross?”

And so asked my younger brother Andre Sandino on our family’s way home from Mantalongon, Dalaguete in Southern Cebu where we spent the Holy Week to witness the Pasyon sa Mantalongon last March 21, 2008.

Apparently, local Mantalongon residents, along with people from neighboring towns and barangays, the Cebu City-based media, freelance photographers, road trippers (like Eloise who have more artistic photos of the event here), and foreign tourists also went out of their way to be in Cristo Rey Mountain Park, Mantalongon first hand to watch the live reenactment of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion by Gilbert Bargayo.

Point and Shoot: Attempt at Symmetry

March 10, 2008

I took these during my KL-Singapore trip. I was aiming at symmetrical perfection but all the years of subjecting my hands to either painting, climbing, drawing, writing, typing, and most especially fapping off has taken its toll. Even the cam’s grid-guides can’t help much to help me estimate the “centers.” Like the previous set, I only used minimal PS on these.

Point and Shoot: Sexiest Petronas Tower Photos

March 5, 2008

I am proud to say and claim, as always, that these here might well be the sexiest Petronas Twin Towers photos that’s ever been taken using a point and shoot camera. To make the feat more awesome, may I just point out that these were taken from a camphone. Yes, that’s right. I only used a 5 Megapixel cam from a great phone.

I took these from the outside of the towers, obviously, but along that area where people go wait for cabs. I was lying down on the street at most times, without a care in the world, just to get the angles I want. Note, too, that I only used Photoshop on these for purposes of resizing, inserting my digimark, and blurring out some parts of the dark skies to even out the colors.

Rodolfo ‘Jun’ Lozada: Pinoy Jedi Knight

February 10, 2008

rodolfo 'jun' lozadaJun Lozada has suddenly hit stardom.

Many consider him a hero; the lone jedi knight sworn to tell the truth amidst pressure and threats to his life. I admire the man for coming out to finish what Neri and JDVIII started. He is a better man than Atty. Sergio Apostol who knows nothing than to bully an obviously scared man. It is not easy to pluck the courage and speak out the truth. But it is even harder to continue on telling the truth when no one is there to believe you. Or rather, if there is but a few willing to believe you.

In this country’s political scene, the definition of truth is (1) relative to whichever party uses it. For example, Lozada’s testimony is an outright lie for the administration because (a) it damages the image of the President, (b) it implicates the President’s husband, (c) it gives the government an overall nasty publicity, and (d) because Jun Lozada’s backers (Lacson primarily) are from the opposition. It is clear, that from the administration’s view, Lozada is being used by the opposition to destabilize her reign; a mere plot to dethrown her. For the administration people, I think it is safe to conclude that the truth for them means “to not go against PGMA.”
