The New Seven Deadly Sins: I’m Screwed

March 11, 2008

So, the Vatican has introduced seven new deadly sins. Do they have a committee that decides this kind of shit or something? The Committee of Sins, perhaps? Anyway, these new deadly sins (Genetic Modification, Experimenting on Humans, Polluting the Environment, Causing Social Injustice, Causing Poverty, Becoming Obscenely Wealthy, and Taking Drugs) are more hip than the original seven, and it doesn’t sit well with the old guys.

seven deadly enemies of man

Pride: We were the first! Why do we need another seven?! We were the stars of a Brad Pitt movie, goddammit!

Wrath: DIE, N00BS! DIE!!!

Lust: Fakers. We can totally kick their pretentious asses. Mmmm… asses. Gangbang, anyone?

My Jealous God

March 7, 2008

I grew up “knowing” God.
Growing up in a Catholic setting, I was practically spoon-fed with stories of God’s overflowing love for mankind, his merciful nature, his kindness, patience for sinners, tolerance for man’s sinful nature, his loving ways and his pure heart.

So, just imagine my shock and utter disbelief when, at age 31, I was being “indoctrinated” into believing that my God is a jealous God and a God full of wrath for man because of man’s sinful nature. God, a jealous God?

Interfaith Rally

March 1, 2008

I was there at the the Interfaith rally yesterday. A light drizzle greeted me when I arrived hours before the start of the rally. . That didn’t dampen my spirits though. I had faith that the InterFaith rally will continue despite the drizzle. Hope reigned in my heart that the InterFaith rally will set the ground for Filipinos to take a look at our current situation. EVERYTHING HAS A REASON

I should have gone to bed! My attention was, however, caught by pedestrian observer’s mail - “let us help kcat bloggers“. Who is kcat after all!

She is a 25 year-old woman suffering from a rare disease called NEUROFIBROMATOSIS TYPE 2 (NF2) for a considerable number of years. She have brain tumors. Her left extremities weakened. She can’t move her left arm and hand, left leg and foot. She can’t walk. Her right face numbs and her facial muscles won’t move. She can’t swallow as well. Her vision blurs and she can’t smile. She’s also deaf. Yet, her site everything has a reason touches the lives of so many not only in the cyber community, but in the real world as well.

Her site depicts the true meaning of living: everything has a reason.

Who Left the Fetus in Malacanang and Why?

January 26, 2008

einstein_howtosolveproblems.jpg

Video: Philippines Annulment worst than Iranian Divorce

January 19, 2008

I just realized while reading Tess Raposas’ recent article in The Women’s International Perspective, how primitive and medieval our separation law here in the Philippines. The news that denied annulment was higher this year reminds a lot of the Divorce Iranian Style documentary:

Tagum Fiesta and Christ the King Cathedral

December 8, 2007

We arrived in the cathedral and was treated to a grand spectacle. The cathedral is certainly bigger than any church in Davao City. The architecture is reminiscent of castles with all the gold and towers. The front is adorned with a large and intricate fountain with the water pouring out of the mouth of fishes. Over the side of the cathedral are the station of the cross that are laid out in with real crosses and garden landscape. At the back holds a gigantic statue of Jesus Christ with his sacred heart.

Requinto clan: Preserving the Pastores tradition

December 6, 2007

By Zorabelle Fran Uy and Balbino “Ka Bino” Guerrero

This article was written by Zorabelle Fran Uy, a UP Cebu Masscom student, based on interviews by Balbino “Ka Bino”Guerrero of Narcisa Requinto and Barangay captain Fernando “Nanding” Requento of Tagjaguimit, Naga City.

A clan in this new city at the southern crossroads of Metro Cebu still carries on a long lost tradition that puts an original twist in the door-to-door Christmas caroling that we know today

Known in Naga City as the Pastores, they are town carolers composed of family members of the Requinto clan who stage the Bible’s narration of the shepherds’ search for the baby Jesus coined Los Pastores.

A Message of Hope from Pope Benedict XVI (Personal Reflections on the encyclical letter, Spe Salvi) Part 1 of 3

December 3, 2007

pope_volvo.jpg

Now, before I continue, I would like to say that this is not a critique of the Pope’s message. I am not in a position to challenge the Pope’s knowledge of theology and its applications in our world. These are my personal reflections. I would highly recommend my Christian brothers and sisters, even the non-practicing ones, to do the same - read the letter for yourselves and reflect on it. There are many news articles about it in various newspapers but they’re all influenced by the newswriter’s views as to what’s important and significant. So you have to read it for yourself and write down your personal thoughts on it. Click here and continue reading

Religion and politics

November 30, 2007

How do we explain the people’s fanatical participation in new religious formations? Why are evangelical leaders enjoying high popularity these days? It’s not enough to describe the religious nature of Filipinos. The revival of interest in religion has something to do with the dislocations of the Philippine economy in the past decades.
