Vote for Tubbataha - 7 Reasons Why
March 2, 2008
…In 2006, the money generated by tourism in Thailand was equivalent to the money brought in by OFWs. Should we look into boosting our tourism industry’s potential as a billion-dollar earner? Can we follow in the footsteps of our neighbor, Thailand? Can tourism be one of the solutions to the “brain drain†caused by the diaspora of our workers?…
…The tourism industry is highly competitive and every country wants a bigger slice of the pie. Tourists rely on online reviews, word-of-mouth, promos and international recognitions. This online elections for The Seven New Wonders of Nature is our chance to boost the tourism industry in our country…

White sands of Candabong, Anda, Bohol
January 9, 2008
No doubt it was the highlight of our vacation in Bohol. Last December 30, we trooped from the mountains of Sudlon, Alicia, Bohol, where my wife hails, to the enchanting white sands of Candabong, Anda, a nearby town, for a cool Rizal Day splash.
The beach was public. We paid absolutely nothing to get in. The sand was creamy white and not artificial, unlike those in other private resorts in the province. At the farthest end of the semi-oval stretch of white sand is a small rock/island shaped like a soldier’s helmet. Along the shore were lines of boats and huts lying idly, as if time has stopped in that corner of the world.

The Race to The Future Begins Here
January 4, 2008
Touted as a “Race to the Future,†the 2008 Clark Freeport International Marathon is a first in more ways than one. On Jan. 13, 2008, for the first time in the country, a marathon is implementing a technology that uses the GPS to track the runners and their progress through the scenic and winding route of the marathon.
“This is the first time this technology is being used in the country,†Rudy Biscocho, of RACE, Inc. says. “The system uses a special chip that is attached on the runners’ shoelaces, allowing the GPS satellite to follow their progress as they make their way along the route. This technology is used in the Boston Marathon and even the Tour De France.†“We are proud that we are introducing this state-of-the-art technology.†Ms. Noemi Garcia of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) adds.
Mr. Biscocho, acquired the AMB ChipX system on his recent visit to Australia. AMB ChipX Timing system is based on a simple concept – each athlete is fitted with a chip (called a transponder) which outputs a signal. As the athlete crosses the start/finish line, the signal is detected and the exact time calculated. This simple concept has been refined and perfected over the last 25 years and is now used by over 13,000 AMB customers worldwide.

Naga launches festival of shepherds’ tales
By Jujemay G. Awit
Sun.Star Staff Reporter
THE year 2007 is a milestone year for Naga.
Even as it became a city, it also honored its traditions by officially launching its own festival, the Pastores de Naga.
Pastores de Naga depicts the shepherds’ retelling of Joseph and Mary’s journey to find a birthing place for the Savior, according to the Christian tradition.
The story is told through songs and dances. In between songs, the presenters tell the story in a poetic manner.

Tagum Fiesta and Christ the King Cathedral
December 8, 2007
We arrived in the cathedral and was treated to a grand spectacle. The cathedral is certainly bigger than any church in Davao City. The architecture is reminiscent of castles with all the gold and towers. The front is adorned with a large and intricate fountain with the water pouring out of the mouth of fishes. Over the side of the cathedral are the station of the cross that are laid out in with real crosses and garden landscape. At the back holds a gigantic statue of Jesus Christ with his sacred heart.
Requinto clan: Preserving the Pastores tradition
December 6, 2007
By Zorabelle Fran Uy and Balbino “Ka Bino†Guerrero
This article was written by Zorabelle Fran Uy, a UP Cebu Masscom student, based on interviews by Balbino “Ka Binoâ€Guerrero of Narcisa Requinto and Barangay captain Fernando “Nanding†Requento of Tagjaguimit, Naga City.
A clan in this new city at the southern crossroads of Metro Cebu still carries on a long lost tradition that puts an original twist in the door-to-door Christmas caroling that we know today
Known in Naga City as the Pastores, they are town carolers composed of family members of the Requinto clan who stage the Bible’s narration of the shepherds’ search for the baby Jesus coined Los Pastores.

Legenda Hotel Subic Bay
December 4, 2007
I actually wrote this piece the other day at my room at the Legenda Hotel Subic. However, I wasn’t able to complete it as I was limited by a short and very expensive wifi access. So I am posting my experience just now.
We are here to attend a management seminar facilitated by our company. The seminar was great. There were a lot of lessons I took away with me to ponder on and apply in my work when I get back to Manila.
I could not say the same for the hotel. Given that I did not expect five star quality, there were still several areas where the hotel could do to improve on.
The Legenda’s front entrance is elegant. It is comparable to five star hotels that are located in the heart of Metro Manila. I actually found it impressive (of course that’s only me). The lobby provided the same ambience - elegant and luxurious. I was not looking for a Shangri-La or even a Marriott or a Best Western so this sat fine with me.
