White sands of Candabong, Anda, Bohol
January 9, 2008
No doubt it was the highlight of our vacation in Bohol. Last December 30, we trooped from the mountains of Sudlon, Alicia, Bohol, where my wife hails, to the enchanting white sands of Candabong, Anda, a nearby town, for a cool Rizal Day splash.
The beach was public. We paid absolutely nothing to get in. The sand was creamy white and not artificial, unlike those in other private resorts in the province. At the farthest end of the semi-oval stretch of white sand is a small rock/island shaped like a soldier’s helmet. Along the shore were lines of boats and huts lying idly, as if time has stopped in that corner of the world.

Thoughts on Marriage (Why? and why not!)
January 8, 2008
I am in 30s now. Ten years ago, a thought was unimaginable to cross my mind. Now, this unimaginable thought is able to penetrate my radar of thoughts. It becomes real. And it demands serious thinking. I will have to settle down and find a partner in life. After flying and roaming around, the idea of settling down becomes a reasonable option. In short, marriage is a looming and emerging reality thought for me.
What is marriage for a man in his 30s? It brings clarity to what he wants in life. It is companionship in the tumultous journey of self-fulfillment and maturity. It is a rite of passage from a free-spirited man to a responsible husband. And more importantly, it is a decision to be with someone for the rest of his life.
Yes, I am in 30s. By this time, I was told, that I should have known what I wanted to become and I should be on my way of becoming what I wanted. The distractions of being single do not help in clearing and simplifying what I wanted. Most of my friends are now married and few are planning to get married soon. In gatherings such as class reunions, family get-togethers, church and organization meetings, one common question I frequently encounter is, “Are you married?” It is a question that I could easily dismiss and answer, “No!” But now the thought of marriage is more real than the question asked and the answer given.
Being in 30s carries a bundle of considerations before making the decision. One of which is my friends. If I get married, I will spend less time with them. I remember the time when my mother invited me to go with her to go shopping. I declined to go with her. My mother noticed that I was spending less time with her. Well, I did not notice that. I thought it was part of growing up. So probably, marriage too is part of growing up since i will be spending less time with my friends. Another consideration is my dream. I wanted to write a book. I believe that I have saved enough materials in my mind to begin writing it. The materials have even started to wake me in the middle of the nights and come to life to disturb my consciousness. I have doubts if a woman out there can share that dream with me and understand my passion for sharing my ideas and experiences through writing.
The thought has so far brought me here and now. They say that I am not getting any younger anymore. I admit that the thought has made me thinking. I believe that the true measure of a man is to translate this thought into action and reality. Allow me to think about that.

anak ng puto
January 7, 2008

“I Don’t Want To Be Forgotten”
January 7, 2008
“I don’t want to be forgotten in jail.â€
- Fouad Ahmed al-Fahran, the “Dean of Saudi Bloggersâ€Â Â
While most bloggers I know would write today about how their day went or some unique food find, I would like to take a moment to write about a fellow blogger. A blogger who, like me, won’t shut up. The only difference is that I write from a place where I still enjoy (to some degree) the right to create and disseminate information on whatever I feel like passing off responsibly as such. He, on the other hand, worked for that same right to be enjoyed in his own country… and got imprisoned for it. And one day, we who blog in the Philippines face the very close possibility of suffering the same fate: of being arrested.

Drawbacks of Bad Posts
January 7, 2008
Originally posted at Build that Geek.
Waaa, I’ve been a bad blogger lately. It’s been a long time ago since I posted a good post. I promise to post a good post soon. I have tons of postables posts on Draft mode, I hope I can have time to finish them soon.
Ooops, how about making this post a good post? Nice idea. Just changed the title of this post from “This Blog Needs Good Post” to “Drawbacks of Bad Posts”, FYI.
First, I have to define bad posts on my own unhumble (haha) words. Bad posts are:
- sponsored review posts. Why? Paid reviews are usually sugarcoated posts (in kuya Blogie’s terms). Most of the reviewers doesn’t even have a first-hand exposure to the service or the product.
- posts made just to drive traffic (SEOing for traffic). I’ve created a lot of them: the UPCAT, DLSUCET, ACET and MSU-SASE posts. Even though they’re almost worthless except for the results page link, they generate a lot of hits anyway.
I must admit that at least 10 of my previous posts fit my own definition of a bad post (ang labo ko!). Here are the drawbacks of having crappy posts one after another (based on my own experience):
- Sudden decrease in average visit length. Uhm, it’s obvious. No one would care to stay long to a blog with crap posts.
- Drop of feed subscribers. I used to have 30+ feed subscribers on weekends. When I started posting bad posts, it decreased to 20+. Huhuhu.

Eight things you should never do on a first date
January 7, 2008
Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who do such wrong things on the first date. I for one have had a lot of negative experiences, like getting slapped, getting slapped, getting slapped. Okay, I was a creep back then, but let’s all concentrate on the topic. This is a guide for neophytes in the dating game.
Please note that each item in this guide outlines a brief summary, appended with a brief scenario on the positive and negative effects of following the item.
1. Don’t be late
It is imperative that you arrive on time for your date. Remember, first impressions last. May I also stress that arriving on time is one of the major prerequisites to a successful date. Arriving early will give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the venue for the date. This means that this allows you to look for the nearest exit in case you need to bail out suddenly and you don’t have the heart to tell your date. Arriving late on the other hand will make you less of a man. Your date may think that, a. you’re a lazy bastard; b. you’re too poor to own a watch; c. you still live with your mom. If you have a problem with time management, then it is recommended that you plan your date 3 months in advance. This gives you the time to plan your drinking sessions, cancel your other dates, ask for date money from your parents. Schmuck. Continue reading Eight things you should never do on a first date…
Jose Amang Parica and the Filipino Invasion!
January 7, 2008

A number of Filipino pool players are in the Derby City Classic right now. Among the notable figures is Jose Amang Parica who beat Niels Feijen. Amang Parica currently resides in the US. Was just wondering if anyone here has played with/against Amang.
And oh! Here’s an interesting read I just found on Jose Amang Parica Jr., who initiated The Filipino Invasion. The article was written by my kabayan, Val. G. Abelgas. IT IS a great read! And I kid you not! Enjoy!
Much thanks for looking! Link is here, friends!

My year as a mom
January 5, 2008
A year has come and gone. Many bloggers have created lists about their memorable times, accomplishments and disappointments in 2007. At the risk of sounding cliche, I will spin out my own list of sorts.
The year 2007 for me as a mother was a very hard and challenging year. The past 12 months have tested my strength and will as a mom. But look at me now, I am still standing, breathing… smiling. Though I must have aged considerably, more hair strands have gotten white, more lines have appeared on my face, my knees have gotten weaker, my back more sore than ever before… my spirit has grown more muscle. I will not call myself a survivor, (I think that should be reserved for those who truly deserve it) but I must say I have survived the most horrendous year in my 30-plus or so life (hehe).
Buying a new PC monitor
January 5, 2008
Not at the moment for me. I’m planning to get my current monitor fix or buy a secondhand. My Samsung SyncMaster 551v monitor is still in good condition actually. It is included in the computer set bought by my sister in 2002. The tricky part is you have to push the button of the monitor several times before you can start using the computer. Sometimes, it can be opened immediately in just one push. But most of the time, it’s a cause of frustration to anyone who wants to use it.

Italiannis Sicilian Chicken Salad
January 5, 2008
A salad is a mixture of different food/s usually including vegetables or fruits, served with a dressing or sauce. There are times that salads come with chicken or shrimp or bacon (my favorite!), and other times with cheese.
Over time I have acquired a liking to green salads especially the caesar salad. Other than that, I stayed with eating safe ones like fruit or potato salad that are often served on special occasions at our house.
When a friend raved about Italianni’s Sicilian salad, my ears perked up. It was a sign that I was meant to try this so called concoction. I readily accepted an invite to eat at Italianni’s in Greenbelt 2 just for the sake of tasting it.

Are you afraid of stilettos?
January 4, 2008
Why do people often comment “Are your shoes licensed?†whenever they see pointed high heels and stilettos? Other comments you would hear would be “those shoes are killersâ€. I am not sure if its killer to the feet wearing them or killer to the toes they step on.
Many women are also hesitant to wear them. They complain about the leg pain, the calluses, the difficulty of having to survive through a whole day walking in these killer shoes.
I know all about the leg pains and the calluses but I will not be fazed. I love high heels. I love stilettos. I simply love wearing them.
It’s Not the End of the World As We Know It
January 3, 2008
For this blog there will be no such year-ender ritual - not because I didn’t want to but because I caught fever on New Year’s Day. However, Postcard Headlines did have a report of sorts last November when it commemorated its first half-year of blogging.
I hope it’s not a sign of things to come. There are too many things to do other than lying in bed all day. Of course there’s no need to be utterly alarmist. “The end of the world as we know it†is a much-abused phrase by an assortment of personages ranging from so-called environmentalists sounding the alarms on the coming great flood to warmongering neoconservatives warning of the next big terror attack.
