What do I get with Custom firmware 5.50GEN-B?

  • All functions of the official 5.50 GEN-A firmware
  • Bug fix: the VSH menu can now be disabled
  • Pressing Select can start the recovery, bring up the VSH recovery menu, or do nothing at all (for those who wish to use Remote Play between their PSP and PS3)
  • Update via Network (taken from M33)
  • Pandora (converting the battery to/from the Pandora-state) and Shutdown Device options added to the VSH menu
  • Flash1 format option adds a check that prevents a flash1 format if enabled
  • Access [remains open] to the PlayStation Store and Remote Play continues working

How to get custom firmware on your PSP

How do you get custom firmware so you can play free PSP games? Follow these steps:

  1. Check if your PSP supports custom firmware by reading the CFW compatibility guide.
  2. If your PSP is hackable, proceed to this guide on how to install custom firmware.
  3. If your PSP is not hackable, proceed to this guide on 5.03 GEN-A via ChickHEN hack or Custom Firmware Enabler via ChickHEN hack.

If you already have custom firmware, you may want to update to the following firmwares. Do note that some games require specific firmware versions and a few others require the latest firmware version (5.50) to even run.

  1. 5.00 M33 (requires 500.pbp)
  2. 5.03 GEN-A or Custom Firmware Enabler/5.03 MHU (requires 503.pbp)
  3. 5.50 GEN-B or 5.50 MHU (requires 550.pbp)
