I was wide eyed at the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian

I’ve always been intrigued with the all steel church of the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian. Thanx to Tina Paterno, who will be heading a restoration project of this impressive edifice, I was able to appreciate further and take preliminary shots of the interior for a future feature in simbahan.net...

Glass slivers

The facade and main entrance of the Ateneo de Manila University's new Rizal Library faces west. To reduce the heat inside and the need for air conditioning, the only glass on this side is a corner window whose frame sticks out beyond the wall, and the tall, narrow window of its main stairwell.See what's...

LP: husay…(able/skillful)

Face-off

Nestlé Philippines (left) and PHINMA Plaza (right) share a circular driveway. From afar, they look like they're beside each other. But when you get near enough to see their main entrances, you realize that they're across each other. To me, it looks like a battle of the corporate buildings, refereed...

Repaired

Only the facade and the Chinese-influenced octagonal bell tower of the 1852 Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz, better known as the Binondo Church, survived the flattening of the City of Manila during WWII. It is easy to see which the oldest parts are, with their damaged reliefs and cracked pillars,...

Camouflage

I know I've posted so many photos of the Manila Cathedral already, but it has such beautiful details I don't think I'll ever tire of it (and I hope you won't either). I especially like how the carvings are ornate but almost nothing is painted, so the interior looks deceptively simple from afar. The interior...

Framed

When I first visited the new Rizal Library at the Ateneo de Manila University, many of the small details were still unfinished. Take this raw concrete cylinder in one of the interior water features, for example. I'm wondering what it's supposed to be and hoping that it will be the base for another sculpture...

Elemental

One of the stone and metal sculptures of Filipino artist Impy Pilapil graces the main entrance of the new Rizal Library of the Ateneo de Manila University. Titled "Wind and Soul," it stands in the middle of a small water feature, just one of many in this proudly green building. The aesthetically-pleasing...

The dome

Finally, I managed a photo of the Araneta Coliseum which actually shows its dome. Previously, I've shown photos of one of its entrances and the curved footbridge which connects it to several malls in the area. Nicknamed "The Big Dome," this multipurpose stadium in Cubao, Quezon City is one of the biggest...
