Circumstantial Culture
Being away from home allows one an opportunity to look at his own people with a detached perspective. It is with that note that this blog is being written.
Because I am overseas, I only manage to get fresh news from home by watching the news in TFC. It is very refreshing to hear news of Filipinos achieving so much in the fields of boxing, entertainment/music, fashion and sometimes, even science, but it is quite disconcerting to hear news about the degenerating political and social climate in the Philippines. But I am not a political science expert nor am I an authority in social analysis. I speak of what is simply on my mind right now, as I also think of the future of the Filipino people.
The Poverty of Learning
I deplore the fact that among an unwieldy stream of textbooks coming out of the publishing houses every year, many escape critical peer reviews that should be the requirement of every manuscript prior to its entrance to the press. If ever they all did then I am very bewildered at the quality of the reviewers as a large number of Filipino-authored textbooks reaching public and private libraries and bookstores variably contain errors in some or in many parts. In institutions where professors and other members of the faculty are not critical to details (owing to their bookishness) these errors persist and create a well of misinformation for the students and the public, who are ought to carry the erroneous brand of knowledge to their children or their students and their graves.
Learn or Burn: Pay “With Money and Time” or “With Your Future”
A lot of people, especially ones who have spent years in their profession, stop trying to learn. Some people don’t want to learn. Others can’t “find the time” to learn. Others don’t have the money for new learning. But what are you actually paying for by NOT learning?

As far as I can remember, it started out second semester of school year 1999-2000. I was compelled to do it, because of unemployment. And perhaps due to boredom and the thrill that I missed so much. Well, I just did it with the feeling of curiosity and not minding if I can go on finishing it.
