Getting Ready to Go on a Big Trip

Some of you would’ve already read somewhere on the interwebs that I’m just about ready to go on a Big Trip. Ah. Funny calling it that, sometimes. But, that’s what we ended up calling it here at home with the kids – The Big Trip. Yes, my family and I are off to three of our “homes”...

Fantasy Premier League: United backlash

Manchester United came up with an emphatic 5-0 drubbing of Wigan Athletic, few days after their embarassing defeat from newly promoted Burnley in midweek. Unfortunately, my starting defender Maynor Figueroa suffered a dismal Gameweek 3 because of this, plus the fact that I do not have any United player in my team.

As of this writing, I still have a game in hand and my Liverpool players are yet to score, but like Gameweek 1, my whole scoreboard seems anemic. For the upcoming Gameweek 4, I purchased Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon and released Florent Malouda, who seems to be a disappointment thus far. This should add more offense for my midfield and I intend to use my available £2.3 million from previous sale to beef up my defense. Probably a Glenn Johnson of Liverpool in two weeks time.

Fantasy Premier League: Anfield boys bounce back

Gameweek 2 was a much better result for me as I managed to get 37 points to put my points total to 77. My Liverpool duo of Pepe Reina and Dirk Kuyt, who I assigned as captain for GW2, did most of the scoring. It seems my current 4-5-1 formation has at least brought me near the midtable in the common league and took me 70 places up in the Philippine league from 338th to 268th.

For the upcoming gameweek this weekend, I brought in West Ham United’s Carlton Cole replacing Bolton’s Kevin Davies as starting forward. I think Ryan Shawcross will continue to get the starting spot despite his poor form versus Liverpool last night. I have yet to see some positive performance from Joleon Lescott before I could even think of putting him back in my starting XI.

Fantasy Premier League: Stephen Ireland’s return to action fails to check Man City’s woes

Stephen Ireland is back with Manchester City after missing two games in the BPL but the troubles of Mark Hughes’ squad remain. After losing in away fixtures to Arsenal in the League and Hamburg in the UEFA Cup, City’s hopes of finishing strong  depends on their home form, which has remained solid, until last Sunday.

Man City surely did fantasy managers who picked Clint Dempsey a huge favor by making him a top scorer for Gameweek 32. Ireland, who was even tagged as a doubtful starter by many sources prior to the Fulham game, scored the lone goal for City in their eventual 3-1 defeat and managed to pick up seven fantasy points. <Read more>

Fantasy Premier League: Gerrard doubtful in Liverpool-Blackburn encounter

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could miss this weekend’s game against Blackburn Rovers according to Guardian.co.uk. The inspirational midfielder has been feeling some discomfort since their Barclays Premier League match against Fulham last week and Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal encounter with Chelsea. Fantasy Premier League: Almunia, Gallas could miss crucial Wigan fixture

The Guardian.co.uk has reported that Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and defender William Gallas are likely to miss the club’s crucial Barclays Premier League match against Wigan Athletic this Saturday. Both sustained their injury during their Champions League quarterfinal game against Villareal. No doubt that the two are central to the Gunners’ defense and the loss could derail their chances of catching the rest of the “Big 4″ with barely seven games left in the season. [read this post]

Fantasy Premier League: Bolton’s quality players at a bargain

Not too many fantasy managers are too keen in getting players especially from clubs in middle table. First of all, these players lack the media mileage that top clubs often enjoy like that of a Ronaldo, Lampard or a Gerrard. In managing a fantasy team though, it is crucial that managers can also tap the lower teams in completing their squads. A manager’s £100 million can certainly go a long way if he is able to spot quality players aside from the clubs that are on the top of the league table. [read this post]
