Vitamins and Swimming

I was again on blog leave yesterday. My way now of distracting myself out of the Internet world. Anyway, I would like to share that this past two days that I have been coming in the office very early. Yipee! I have realized that I should be punctual as always to make a good impression to my employer. I just hope I can stick to this “punctuality.”

My Experience with Dengue

The first time I was confined inside the hospital was when I was in my fourth year high school. I can still remember that it was just the start of the second semester of that school year.

Realization

Yesterday, we (together with my mom and Floyd again) went to Las Piñas Lying in Center. I’m not really sure why of all places but I think we need a referral letter from one of the doctors there in order for us to use my mom’s green card. Well, a green card is somewhat similar to philhealth/medicare, which can give us up to PHP25,000 (I think). It’ll be a great help definitely.

We arrived there around 8 in the morning and it opened up around 9:30. Honestly, I was really irritated from the start since I know Lying Ins are for pregnant women – I’m not even pregnant and what worse is that I’m sick. Plus, I thought that they will check me up again but it turned out that all we really need is their signatures! :b-boiling:

When we entered the doctors area and when my mom told them what we need, the doctors and the staff got a little confused (I’m not really sure what happened!) and somewhat the transaction (or what ever you call it) got messed up. Since I was kind of irritated from the beginning I threw out a tantrum (I don’t really know why I did that) and then a woman doctor suprisingly said to me in such a negative/sarcastic tone (in front of everyone): Hija, pipirmahan naman namin yan kaya wag ka nang sumimangot. Kahapon ka pa nakasimangot! (Hey! We will sign that so stop frowning! You have that kind of face since yesterday.) (@_@) Of course, I quiet down, I was shocked! Read the rest of this entry here »

Disturbing Behavior – a Doctor’s late reaction to the Vicente Sotto Video Scandal

scene from Grey's Anatomy

(this is a scene from Grey’s Anatomy – no picture was taken without consent.)

Having been figuratively removed from the world for the past few days, I almost completely missed the explosion of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital Video Scandal into the Philippine media firmament. Now, because of some unthinking, insensitive, and generally stupid health care workers’ behavior, the medical profession is once more being given the spotlight – and not in a good way.

My resident batchmates and I discussed this issue over dinner last Saturday. Having been trained in charity teaching hospitals, we are not unfamiliar with being surrounded with so many young student spectators, whether nurses or medical students, while in the heat of an urgent medical procedure – like an urgent intubation or even an on-going resuscitation.

Despite this understanding and experience, my batchmates and I were all hard put to justify the behavior of the nurses and doctors who are involved in the above case. While at the time, I had not yet seen the video, the mere narrative of what had transpired disturbed me. More so after I had.
