[Filipina on Flip Flops] Korean Food at Minato Restaurant, Ortigas

From Filipina on Flip Flops: Travel Tales and the City Life of a Filipina

Minato is a Korean restaurant along Escriva Drive which is part of this entire lot of Korean establishments – you won’t miss it, the handful of signs in Hangul are a dead giveaway (but in case you need more landmarks, it’s the joint of establishments immediately beside Millenia Tower). My friends and I went to college in UA&P, which is around the area, so we were pretty familiar with the place.

Zip Line and Chili Ice Cream

Kuya Omar, our tour guide in Donsol is well travelled around the Bicol region and he encouraged us to go to Daraga to see the Mayon Volcano and to try the Chili Ice cream in Legazpi City. We were both inclined though in staying overnight with Kuya Rigor prior that conversation and then we changed our minds and went instead to Daraga that afternoon. (more at flipnomad.com)

Close Encounters with the Whale Sharks

I’ve been dying to do this for years but I’ve never had the guts and chance to do it. Last February 2010 one of my best buddies invited me to travel and I didn’t think twice and suggested Donsol, Sorsogon as part of our ever-changing itinerary. more at flipnomad.com

[Filipina on Flip Flops] A Series of Snapshots: Staying Afloat in Asia

http://filipinaonfipflops.blogspot.com

Anyone who’s ever traveled around Asia knows that life in this continent is often closely intertwined to and, in more ways than one, largely dependent on the numerous bodies of water that surround, run through and sometimes connect its many countries. For someone like me who lives in an archipelago like the Philippines and who’s fortunate enough to be able to explore its many islands, I’ve often observed this firsthand. I’ve seen the same thing in my travels in other countries in Asia as well – the importance of the sea, the river, or the ocean in everyday life, for everyday people to be able to survive.

Here are a few pictures I took from some of my travels that capture glimpses of the lives these people lead, in their everyday attempt to, quite literally and figuratively, stay afloat.

Belgium: Europe’s Place to .Be

I recently got back from a client support assignment in Belgium for 3 months. The first time I learned I was going to Belgium, I really had no idea what was instore for me for 3 months in that country. The only thing that popped out of my mind when Belgium is mentioned is the picture of Miss Belgium, who became a crowd favorite when the Miss Universe was held in the Philippines in 1994. ( I was in high school then and yes I admit, I had one of those wallet size picture of Miss Belgium being sold on the sidewalks before….hehehehe). I said to myself, if that’s Miss Belgium, well then Belgium here I come!

But there’s more to Belgium that’s just as interesting as Miss Belgium herself.

How to get E-Passport in 45 minutes or less

Even though speculated rumors of Green passports not to be honored in some countries starting April 2010 have been opposed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), I still decided to renew my Green passport into E-Passsport. The E-Passport is newer than the Machine-Readable Passport, and has various security features including a hidden encoded image; an ultra-thin, holographic laminate; and a tamper-proof electronic microchip. It costs Php950 for normal processing time of 14 days, while Php1,200 for rush processing of 7 days.
